“They also have a really awesome bar with a patio that is a lot quieter than the restuarant and a really fun place to hang out for a little bit before sitting down to eat.”
“The marshmallow chocolate tart was rich and tasty, but the tart shell was stale and tasted old.”
“Our bill for 2 people was over $100 (included 2 glasses of wine), which would have been easier to take had the food been good.”
“The food was mediocre, the wait staff snobby and the ambiance cold.”
“All of my menu choices have been excellent- especially the open face salmon sandwich and yummy home-made sorbet.”
“Very nice and quiet restaurant for romantic dinner.”
“will likely not return to Gravitas in the near future, but it is a nice restaurant.”
“Wait staff was large but still seemed to be scrambling and communication was horrible.”
“However, the beers were really expensive at $7 a pop for Shiner.”
“would love to review the dessert as well, but our waiter was too slow to bring it out before we had to leave - even though we asked him when we ordered dessert to please bring it out quickly along with the check b/c we had to leave soon.”
A superb dining experience, will return. This was an outstanding restaurant experience. My husband and I live in the area and frequent many inner loop restaurants and this one ranks in the top 3. The food, service and ambiance were all top rate. My husband had the Ceasar salad and trout and I had the mussels. I am a self proclaimed mussels expert and these are now my favorites (white wine with herbs, perfectly seasoned broth). Their fries are by far the best in the city (even better than the Beligian fries were at Cafe Montrose). We had reasonably priced wines by the glass ($8) and then superb desserts. Husband had Butterscotch bread pudding and I had the chocolate pecan tort. Everything was truly excellent. We were very pleased and will absolutely return.
Terrible service.. Been here several times. Food is good, but it literally has the worst service I've ever experienced in Houston.
UNDER-whelming. Under-whelming, slow service, pricey. I took my honey to Gravitas for his birthday, having heard it was a posh restaurant experience. 7:30 Reservations on Saturday, sold out of prawns from cold bar but found 3 for us in the back. Service was so slow and the waitress wasn’t clear on the menu constantly returning to answer our questions. Caesar salad was basic. Overpriced scallops: Huge plate with 3 large/1 medium scallop over a dollop of something. It was soo oversalted, we sent it back. Next we tried the special which was a small fillet over spinach and everything was doused with sauce. What were they trying to hide. Overcooked for rare. We asked for their bread from their own bakery, sold out. Waitress scrounged for us, dry stale rolls and bread chips from yesterdays leftovers. My honey was a professor at UH school of Restaurant and Hotel Mngmt. He told everyone the experience was “Under-Whelming”. I was embarassed . Too many great restaurants to waste my time again.
Good food, hit or miss service. Gravitas for me has been hit or miss as far as service. However the food has always been top notch. Even though it’s a little pricey for what you get, I still keep coming back. They have a great wine list with a good variety of selections. There is also a private room upstairs which is hard to find at many places. Keep a lookout on their website for different events held each month. One I attended was chick flick night where for one price you get a meal along with a movie, usually a romantic comedy like Sleepless in Seattle.
Amazing dining experience.. Loving this place! Hands down best pork chop in Houston as well the salmon tar-tar. Great drinks. Friendly staff. Posh atmosphere. Accomodating to any request i have ever asked for. Great for private parties. My favorite server there is a guy named AJ (quick, competent, and knowledgeable). I always ask for him.
they make everything but the wine !!!!!!. they own their own bakery, give you the freshest bread hours from leaving the bakery. They have the freshest seafood in this big city. They have the best and freshest east and west coast oysters, the best red gulf snapper ever. And the most romantic atmosphere.
tiny treasure in houston. I just wanted to throw out a few thoughts about my new favorite place to eat and socialize. Gravitas is a super kool bistro to eat, chill, drink and relax with your friends and family. The staff become your friends and always welcome your next visit. The moment you walk in the door the energy that surrounds you is comfortable and inviting, not to mention the aromas wafting through from the open air kitchen. Chef Fidel and his crew prepare every meal with the utmost professionalism and will not send out anything less than perfect in Chef Fidel's eyes. The food is delicious and the servers are some of the best I have witnessed in a long time. Mark, the General Manager is always there and willing to assist with any of your needs and is also one of the nicest people I have encountered in a long time. If you havn't visited Gravitas yet, Please, By All Means Get Yourself There and meet the staff and have a great time...You owe it to yourself to have a great dining experience! Bon Appetito.
HORRIBLE - Rude Staff. Took my staff into Gravitas last week for our Christmas Party. The place was empty and there were a couple of people in the bar area. The staff told me I could not sit in or near the bar because someone rented it. Although there were only a couple of couples there. The staff was so rude! If you are looking for a great dinner hit Vencent's a few blocks up the road from Gravitas. Their staff is great and you can sit where you want!
Amazing atmosphere - fresh & quality food. I always have a wonderful experience at Gravitas. Sercive is friendly and food always arrives in a timely manner. My friends and I love the atmosphere, delicious cuisine, and creative cocktails. Gravitas will always be one of our favorites!
nice idea, with room for improvement. I went to Gravitas by suggestion of some friends of mine. The waiter, although very nice, did not come around very much. We had a few food allergies that we described at length and watched him diligently writing them down. AFter too long of a wait between apps, then salad, then entree, we were disappointed to notice that the allergy info had not been communicated! We then had to wait another twenty more minutes to be served! All in all we stayed there for three hours, and not just because of the wonderful conversation. Lamb was extremely fatty, but the smashed potatoes, fish, salads, and bread pudding were fantastic. Just needs some tightening up in the management dept, i think... More organization, but the food was relatively wonderful.
