Amazing Food, Classy but Relaxed Atmosphere, Interesting Drink Choices, Great Bar Attitude.
I just cannot possibly say enough about the phenomenal menu choices. The anti-pasta plate was not only tasty, but it had such a wide selection of meats and cheeses. The melon, olives, grapes, pecans, almonds, and crostini perfectly paired with the 6 selections of cheeses and 6 varieties of meats. Simply delicious. Then came the pizza. We ordered a very simple Basil/tomato/Mozz pizza, but what we received was anything but simple. The crust was the perfect texture and thickness for the toppings. The crust had a slightly sweet flavor to it, which paired well with the pesto sauce.
The drinks were well made and served by a confident and quick staff. The overall atmosphere of the bar was relaxed but not sloppy-sports-bar kind of relaxed. The place is smallish, but the seating is well thought out and makes for the best usage of space. I loved the elongated couch-type seating that was all along the wall, allowing patrons to create their own space based on how many people were in their party.
The outdoor smoking section could use a few amenities - such as seating and an overhang or awning of some sort. The front doors were beautiful and sort of set the mood of the interior.
We will be back....
My Tab was overcharged too!. My tab was over charged too! I have to agree with a couple of reviews on that.. I thought it was a mistake, but now it doesn't seem like it.. Also the rude bar tender I kind of agree with it... Apart from that, I thought the place was nice. A cosy place for preparty ....
LOVE this place. A friend showed me this wonderful place on night and I'm glad I came. It is small, so you need to get there early so you get a seat. Great drinks, although a little pricey, and great pizzas (pricey as well). Beautiful decor, nice looking people. I feel like it's a hidden and not too crowded. LOVE IT!
Absintium Artemesia,Sublime, austere, no cliche, RUM & COKE.
***The actual cross-street is GREELEY; if you're at Rosewood, you've passed Absinthe- gone too far***
I've read the reviews and it is funny to read the reviews that are filled with negativity. These people should realize that they're not critics so what point is it to write a hate-review? Is it that they are filled with such high thoughts of themselves that they 'think' their negative vibe actually matters?? It's a pity for them. as for me, and all the people that I have invited to the place, asbolutely loves the place!! Ralph, Jackie, Karen; you all are GREAT :)!!! For the past several years [although not much since my kid was born, and besides I enjoy it better with my wife :) ], we have made absinthe the traditional spot for my birthday capper [we'll see you again tomorrow night! :))]; as well, we've enjoyed Absinthe on many many other occassions :) After enjoying dinner we head over to Absinthe for the 'drink of choice' and festivities. I highly recommend the absinthe drink (and not just because I am an artist that enjoys the euphoria) and in my opinion should the first drink everyone tries when they visit the space [wouldn't be called 'The Absinthe Lounge' if not for the absintium artemesia; so give it a try!!! :)]. This place is choice; and I have it on high authority!!!!!
Wonderful upscale clandestine lounge. We'd heard fabulous things about this place and sought it out. We drove by it 3-4 times before we finally found the place, hunting for the castle-like double doors. Gorgeous french-style decor and soothing ambiance inside this cozy lounge. We chose the best mojitos we've ever had and warm goat-cheese and red pepper quesidillas to start. Then ordered another round of those killer Mojitos and delicious herb chicken, pineapple with cilantro pizza to-die-4! For dessert we braved shots of the Absinthe and the owner lit our glasses up with a flaming sugar cube! So, from what i remember anyway, we had a marvelous date night and plan to return as soon as we can!
Don't go here..... ...so that it remains a great place that no one knows about! I have grown to just love being at this place. The drinks are fantastic, the bartender remembers my husband and I, and the place really circulates air enough that you are not bothered by smokers. I read through the reviews and agree with all the positve ones and love the negative reviews. I prefer people not wear ball caps where I just paid $8 for a fabulous drink. I grew up in the South and was raised that men take their hats off when they go inside anyway. So, I think that is fair. And I also prefer that anyone who is not sure if the bar is gay as a reason to not go, do just that. Please don't go here. Leave our wonderful Montrose to those of us that adore every aspect of it.
Watch your tab. I used to like this place until I was overcharged on my tab. The bartender admitted to the mistake but never fixed it for me. After phone calls and visits to the bar to remind him of the mistake, the tab was never changed-- even after twice telling me it would be taken care of . Worst of all, when I called he acted like I was wasting his time and even hung up on me. At first I thought it was a mistake, but now I think it was an easy way to scam me. If you must visit this bar, I'd use cash only and check the bill, otherwise their are plenty of other great bars in Houston.
great bar food!. Absinthe is a great bar for people watching, eating some great bar food and having a good drink. Ralph the manager makes everyone feel welcome! I like the ambience! Absinthe is a very upscale but friendly place to relax and enjoy a drink. I would recommend it to anyone.
Couldn't disagree with Ginger more!. I thought the bartender was especially friendly! Very welcoming and explained the menu items in good detail even though he was pretty busy all alone at the bar. I've already recommended the place to dozens of friends, but I like the fact that it's hard to find... keeps the snooty, hard-to-please people out.
Just keep on drivin'. I agree with "specialk70". Rude bartender, lousy service, high priced drinks plus impossible parking and hard to find. Too small, too crowded, too expensive and too pretentious. Can't really figure out if it's actually a gay bar or not. Not worth the trouble and hopefully soon to close.
