What People Are Saying About Beaver's Ice House

In Short – The harbinger of all things local brings her food sense to a dressed-up version of the classic Texas icehouse. The restaurant is open and spacious, but beer signs and dart boards are replaced with original murals, stained concrete and mirrored wall space. Banquettes line the walls, along with a bustling bar, where some of the top bartenders in Houston mix cocktails. The menu features neighborhood favorites like the "bar bar" brisket starter, fried pepperoncinis, pork sausage sampler and pibil roasted chicken.
Horrible service, food okay but overpriced

First time I went to Beaver’s was a couple weekends ago on a Saturday afternoon. The place was moderately crowded but not packed. Just went for drinks on the porch. We were seated at a dirty table (bottles, trash, etc.). The waitress new we were there and we got her attention a few times but it still was twenty minutes without a drink order. We gave up and left. It wasn't worth complaining to someone as I wasn't going to give them any money after that delay.
Being the optimist that I am I decided to try Beaver’s for lunch with some coworkers yesterday. We got there at 11:30 and the place was pretty much dead. There were maybe 4 tables plus ourselves. It took too long to be seated. The waitresses kept switching who was serving us. It took 15 minutes to put in an order, another 30 minutes to get our meals, and another 15+ to get the check after requesting it multiple times. We finally got out of there about 12:40. The service was way too slow for the weekday business crowd.
On the plus side the food was good. I liked the fried chicken, juicy with a nice spicy skin. The chocolate chip pie was pretty good too. However, I had to eat it at the office as it took forever to get in and out of that place. The others enjoyed their meals and thought they were good (not great) but not worth the price for lunch.
All said and done, I won’t be going back here unless they beef up the service.
- Pros: Food tasted good and big portions, decor, porch
- Cons: VERY sloooooooooowww service, price
Too Proud

Granted, he's a good chef. But he's just too proud with the prices. We went for lunch one day. We were greeted after 10 minutes of standing there, and got seated outside finally.
The menu's we were given had no prices. After getting sick of having the waiter run off after asking what each item was, we just ordered.
I had a rack of ribs (which were tiny, no meat on these things) a side of potato salad and a side of coleslaw. I had no alcoholic drinks. I paid 32 dollars for my meal.
No thanks.
- Cons: Expensive
Bad Food, Bad Service
by napmcw
tried this place for the first time over lunch with 3 work colleagues. We ordered fried pickles to start and they were good. Beyond that, the food & service just went downhill. Our server was slow and unresponsive. Two of us ordered off the kids menu because we could not find anything appetizing (or cheap enough) to have for lunch. The chicken tenders tasted like fish, the potato & egg salad was cold, the cole slaw was most red cabbage and not much else. The Nut Burger was pretty good and the chips weren’t horrible. Overall, we were upset to have spent $60 for four people for lunch for disappointing food. We will not be back.
- Pros: Fried Pickles
- Cons: Everything Else
