Worth a try for BBQ inside the Loop. I visited last week and really enjoyed the evening. The chef/owner was our waiter and he was very enjoyable to chat with. My husband had the BBQ Sampler and was overwhelmed by the brisket. He only eats brisket at the County Line, so this was a huge surprise. The potato salad was below average. I had the pitboss chickwich which was a good dish overall. The onion strings were flavorless, but the coleslaw was surprisingly good. The BBQ sauce was very tasty, although I did find a couple of bones in my shredded chicken. The fried egg on top was a genius idea and really made the dish pop.

We'll be back for the brisket and to try the queso, which I hear is quite good. Be prepared for a hefty bill, but that is part of the inner loop life!

***UPDATE***I've been back a few times and the menu is just to eclectic. I understand creativity, but the combinations just do not please my palate. For the price, I can find better in this neighborhood.

Monica Pope only owns it, she's not the chef.. I've been here 4 times I think. I keep hoping I will find the right item on the menu but I think it's hopeless. It's all bad. Maybe just the plain ole burger is ok. I haven't tried it yet but what could they possibly do to mess up a burger? Fried chicken is bad. BBQ is awful. Mac is dry. Shredded chicken is a mess. Risotta is overwhelmingly smokey... I've had other items, or my dinner companions have... none of it's been good. Go to enjoy the cool patio and drinks. (be prepared to search for a parking spot though)

bad experience. My wife and I used to enjoy the food, but the quality has declined markedly until reaching its lowest point today--our final visit. The food took an eternity to arrive, but we are parting ways with the food in rapid and unpleasant fashion. Other issues aside, the food wasn't very good and was awfully expensive. $15 for a chicken sandwich without any sides is silly. Parking is often difficult as well. No more.

I love this place!. I love this place. I came back becuase I loved the appetizers and drinks. I love the macaroni and cheese and loved the stuffed peppers so much I tried to duplicate them at home to no avail. I don't particulary like BBQ but I really like this place. The drink with the Habenero vodka is amazing and goes down too quick and smooth.

It's just not good.. I really wanted to like this place. It looks cool, has inventive drinks, and its miliseconds away from my apartment. But I've been twice now and the truth is that it's just a cool concept with lackluster food. The first time I went we had drinks and appetizers. Every one of the apps was dripping in grease--just unneccesary amounts of it. And because it was a Wednesday night and they weren't busy, they decided to close the restaurant early, even though we were still enjoying ourselves. I went a second time and was super excited to try the Nut Burger. It was terrible and completely indistinguishable from the bun it was served on. Also the waitress wasn't very good at all--she didn't bring us water until after our food had arrived, though we asked 3+ times. She just kept making excuses. One person at the table asked if the fried egg that came on their sandwhich could be fried without bacon fat. "No", she said. Not even a thought, just "no". If I ever go back here it will be for drinks only.

Unprofessional. The BBQ isn't that great, the burgers are fine, and the drinks are tiny. BUT what really aggravated me is how unprofessional they were right before Ike arrived in Houston.

They had sent out a message to those on their mailing list saying they'd be open on Thursday. Now granted, hurricanes are unpredictable so plans could change at any minute. Given that, I called at 11AM to verify that they would be open and the woman who answered said they would close at about 1:45. My family and I arrived there at about noon and there were two cars in the parking lot. One of the business partners and two other people were walking out the front door and walked by the two cars of people sitting in the parking lot. The three casually walking away said something to them and kept walking. The "business partner" looked at us and kept walking (actually, it was more like a stroll in the park on a Sunday). My dad got out of the car to read the sign on the door which stated when they would reopen after the storm.

Again, I understand that things can change at the last minute because of a storm blowing through, but she could have been professional and respectful enough to approach us and say plans changed instead of just walking off casually. Luckily, the Chili's nearby had a booming business and served great margaritas (which includes being appropriately sized and priced).

Trendy not tasty.. I have been to B--ver's once before and returned because a friend said to give it another chance. Unfortunately I did! The BBQ was tough for a BBQ restaurant. The drinks were expensive for the small glass that they were served in. I stayed away from the sweet potato fries after the poor experience last time. We ordered some wings as an appetizer which came out as if they had been cooked 15 mins ago and were lukewarm. At this point I was really anxious for my burger. Again, I was disappointed with my selection. It was very bland. A real ice house has a tastier burger.

What a disappoinment!. Beer menu looked excellent, but we were there to eat. I won't eat there again. Service was bad, food priced ok, taste and quality not at what should of been excpected. The waitress with an attitude, got my order wrong. The Pig Stand across the streeet was better when it was still around. I had a Egg and BLT sandwhich, that came with two slices of the roma tomatoes and a sliver of lettuce. The sweet potato fries were soggy and greasy-gross. Even the mac and cheese was lees then to be desired. Go for a beer sit on the patio, enjoy a snack, I heard the wings are good, but pass on a real meal at this place.

This is not BBQ!!!!. I'm shocked that this place has the 4.5 Star Rating!!! All the reviewers saying the brisket and ribs are good clearly don't know what good smoked meat is all about. The brisket is cooked too quickly resulting in a tough piece of meat (I think they wood smoked the meat initially for flavor then use gas assist to finish it out). The ribs are dried out; it is easy to do dry rubbed ribs that are moist and tender (this ain't it). The sausge was good. The pulled pork was dry and more closely resembled chopped beef that had been set up for a while. Good pulled pork doesn't have a ground up consitancy, it has stringy pieces of meat.

I had the $12 smoked sampler. I also ordered the greens and baked beans which were the best parts of my meal! I left all the brisket on the plate, ate only half of one of the two ribs. I'm glad there was sausage and ground pork on the plate to eat.

I told the waitress that the beef wasn't acceptable and she said she'd get me more; which never happened! My girlfriend had a salad that was basically diced iceberg lettuce.

Monica Pope needs to remove her name from this place; it's killing her rep! Kloss needs to repossess their smoker for gross misuse and incompetence!

Mirroring other comments; the drinks are great! But this is a restaurant, not a bar so it should be reviewed as such!

I picked up the tab for my friends dinner since I suggested the place. It was $160 for BBQ and drinks for 5 people!!!!!!!

This place doesn't appear on the landscape when looking at Goode Company or the original Otto's. Even Gabby's has better brisket! This place is billed as a "high end" BBQ joint. The only thing high end were the prices!!!!!!!

I'VE GONE BACK AND LOOKED AT OTHER REVIEWS AND AM NOW CONVINCED THOSE THAT RANTED ABOUT HOW WONDERFUL THE BBQ WAS MUST BE EMPLOYEES OR CLOSE FRIENDS! THE GAP IS TOO WIDE BETWEEN WHAT WAS SAID AND DETAIL ANALYSIS BY MANY WHO CLEARLY UNDERSTAND SMOKED MEAT!

Avoid. Group of 7 about 2 months ago. We were on outside patio. All of us are 'foodies' and pretty much eat out for every meal. We were all excited to eat at Monicas new place. The beer selection was excellent, service slow but friendly. Then the food came--Terrible and tasteless. From the appetizers, hamburgers to the barbque. Of course being 'foodies', we tried each others food. Nothing was good. No one should leave hungry from an Ice House/BarBQue place, but the portions were either so small, or some of us didn't eat our meal. (I'm not kidding when I say a Whopper has more flavor and more substance than the $10 burger I tasted from here) I'm convinced anyone raving or going back to this place are friends/family, or wanting to 'be seen'. So, after paying our $200-300 tab, we left. When I got into my car white 'chalk' got ALL OVER my carpet from the rocks used on the patio....It gets EVERYWHERE. I should have had them pay for my carpet cleaning.
