Typical tavern, but quality. I came here for a cafe racer meetup, not knowing what to expect. By the time I left, I was pleasantly surprised. Darkhorse is the type of place you come with a set group of friends, I wouldn't expect to be making many new acquaintances here, but that's alright. The whole grungy vibe of the place is very reminiscent of every single other dive bar in town, but that's OK too; you don't stop betting on a winning horse.

Darkhorse has some nice people behind the bar, the kind that will take the time to list you their beers on tap during a busy Friday night, and that is hard to find these days. Their beer list is pretty varied, I'm not talking flying saucer-varied, but certainly a lot more than your regular sports bar. I had some superb Chocolate Stout when I went. Hard rock was blaring throughout the night, but it would be a little pretentious to expect anything else when you see the overall vibe the bar is going for. Their pizza was surprisingly good, although that might have been due to the fact that after a couple of beers I was starving. Nevertheless, I strongly endorse it.

Overall, I like this place and I'm sure that I'll come back to it some day, I just won't rush to do it.

Nice NORMAL bar for the non valley girl types. This is a good old fashioned type bar - what a bar was meant to be. A nice quiet non meat market spot to relax, let your guard down and sip a nice adult beverage. When busy service can be slow but a little patience goes a long way. Jukebox is great, pizzas are simple but good -cures the munchies. I would much rather relax here than go grind it up the street for higher priced drinks. I am with miguelUT, people like Htowngirl should stay away - we like it that way!

Citysearch Editorial Review. Look for the brick-wall mural as you're cruising down Washington through the Sixth Ward: That pint of beer, martini and dartboard are the lifeblood of good times in the neighborhood. Shed your pretensions before ducking in--this comfortable tavern is a dive in the warmest sense of the term. Housed in a charming 1920s building, Darkhorse features ornate but homey oak décor while maintaining modern touches; a flat screen glows above the bar while a TouchTunes jukebox often blasts hip-hop. Dress up or dress down to sip a Bloody Mary, munch peanuts and mingle with the diverse, though rarely overwhelming, crowd of area natives.

Yes, Yes, YES!!. I have to have a little chuckle at Htowngirl -- she is the precise type of customer that you NEVER see at Darkhorse Tavern, which is one reason why this place is so great. I love drinking cold beer and playing darts, and just chilling with some friends in a relaxed atmosphere, which is exactly what this place offers. I would urge the young Washington crowd to stay away from this place... this is not the place to order a flaming doctor pepper or a "Washington Apple," whatever that is... But if you want to watch some TV, drink some cold beer, take a shot or two that doesn't have more than two words in its name, and play some competitive darts, this place is right up there with Rudyards.

No, No, NO!!!!. We visited this place on a very non-busy Sunday evening. The bartender looked annoyed as soon as we walked in and he had to get up from playing his game. I ordered 2 regular shots from him...anyone who drinks shots knows what a washington apple is. His reply to me (the customer!) was "I don't make stupid sh*t like that"....REALLY?!?! You're a freakin bartender ! WOW! I googled the recipe for him and made him make them anyways then paid my tab...which was $15 for a beer and the 2 shots...and got the hell out of there. i have never felt so unwelcome in a bar before and will never EVER return. Save your self-respect and go to on e of the million other bars in the area. This one is nothing special what-so-ever.

Beware! They don't pay attention to your bar tab. 2 of my friends and I went there one night and we had holds on our debit cards for twice (and me--three) times the amount of money we spent in there. Also, when you open a tab, they make you sign this slip saying you agree to pay whatever they charge you. That should tip you off that they take liberty with your check card. It's just an average bar with a tiny dance floor. Nothing special.

Nice place in the Heights. Very nice warm and cozy tavern. The drink selection is nice as well as the service. One of the few places that serves COLD Guinness. Good Jukebox too.
