Happy Hour Sushi. I have eaten at a lot of Thai places. And I do mean a lot, I count them in the dozens. It is far and away my favorite type of food, and I make a point of trying every Thai restaurant that I come across. I will admit that my sample size here is small, as I have only eaten here once, and I didn't even order an appetizer. What I did get though is a Thai standard and one that I have eaten at many restaurants and a good place to start a comparison. That dish of course was Red Curry. The curry was extremely sweet, sweeter than all but a handful of the places I have eaten at, but it melded the sweetness with a heart richness that made it exceptional rather than just sweet. The pork in it was prepared well and the spice level was very accurate and perfectly prepared for how I requested it. The atmosphere and decor is nice, and the fact its in an old house is quaint, but Thai places tend to always be decorated nicely and I would just consider it normal rather than something to hang its hat on. There was one problem though, the service was actually rather terrible and I had to wait for my drink to be refilled more than once. Not really a good thing when you are eating a very spicy dish. This is of course inexcusable for a restaurant of any ilk at all. Overall though the food is very tasty and if you are in midtown give it a try. Its not so much better than other Thai places though that I would drive out of downtown to eat there or if another Thai place was closer. I.E. the one downtown.
Sushi Happy Hour is the best deal in Houston. This place is great. I mean really GREAT. Their sushi happy hour starting at 2PM is an amazing value. You still get a large cut of fish, and it is always moist and fresh. Their Hot & Sour soup is delicious, and you can add an egg roll to go along with your sushi (or anything else) for $1. My favorite roll they serve is the Tai's Roll. It has hot cooked salmon and rice inside and the whole thing is dipped in tempura batter and fried, then covered with the sweet sauce they put on the eel... yum! They also have an excellent Pad Thai on their lunch menu that is sure to fill you up.
Great sushi, Great atmosphere.
I first came to Pang Tai's a month or so ago on accident. We were looking for a new sushi restaurant and the one we went to try was closed between 1 and 5 so we ended up here. Since that first time I've been back about one a week for the sushi.
The Sushi happyhour is amazing, the prices are great. I often sit at the sushi bar. The chefs are always prompt with my order, and the quality of fish is to be rivaled only buy much more expensive restaurants.
At times the service can be slow, but as I go for lunch mainly I don't mind the slow pace as it allows you to take in the calming atmosphere.
The only thing I would change would be that they add another fountain on the wall overlooking the sushi bar. I love the waterfalls there, its very relaxing.. when I sit at the sushi bar I miss it.
Never ever going back. ok im not lieing..all i wanted was a good lunch..instead i was at the bar...about to put sugar in my iced tea when one i discovered a dead you know what in my ice tea floating..and two right next to my glass it and i called the manager over and all she could do was pick it up and throw it away not apoligize or nothing!! i was so disgusted i lost my appitiete and canceled my orders and left...if u like suprises come here....
This is ok, if you don't wanna wait for a table.. There's always tables available at this place, it's not so busy...but for the atmosphere and the food...the prices are great. Everything is made fresh...the lemongrass chicken is pretty authentic...if you're hungry and you want a table now...go here...
I walked into pang tai this weekend at abuot 10:00 on Friday night... The 3 of us were sat promptly and greeted by the owner... Our food was amazing and the service superb! The added bonus was that the owner even took each of us with a huge umbrella out to our cars becuase it was a monsoion outside... NOW THATS WHAT I CALL SERVICE!!!!

The best asian restaurant for quality and ambience!. This is one of two of my favorite restaurants to dine at. They have just about everything asian here: Chinese, Japanese, Vietnamese, Thai, etc. They also have a stir fry counter where you pick the meat and noodles/rice; they give you a bowl and you choose the vegetables and add it to the bowl along with the sauce and hand it over to the cook. They have really good sushi too and have an excellent happy hour where their nigiri sushi is $1 a piece and they have specialty rolls that are on average $3. The Happy Hour is available 2-6pm EVERY day and 9pm-close. I have tried several dishes here and have not been let down. Their food is fresh and made of high quality ingredients. They don't add a lot of oil like a lot of other asian restaurants do. Instead they enhance their dishes with the freshest herbs and spices and use higher quality meat. The dishes run on average about $10 with a lunch menu of about $7. The atmosphere is very feng shui with a gentle water fall and stream in the middle of the restaurant.
Good.....But Could do better on the sushi. I have been here a couple of times. The first time I went with my boyfriend. It was in the afternoon around 4 and it took a good while before we got our food. The service is kind of slow. Need to have plenty of time to wait. The food is good, but could do better on their sushi. I have eaten alot excellent sushi, but their sushi is very bland. Also their idea of vegtables in their sushi rolls are just CARROTS. You do however get your money's worth, the rolls are big and pretty cheap. I love their Bun Saigon Beef dish. I guess you get what you pay for!
Awesome!. I took my parents there for lunch and everyone enjoyed it. We ranged from age 11 to 58 years old. We had everything from honey chicken to salmon sashimi to pad thai noodles. Everything was excellent. The service was quick and attentive. The ambience was very cool, trendy, and romantic with their waterfall feature. What's best is their happy hour (even on weekends!) $3 6-pieces of sushi and $3 margaritas.....and other menu items. Great place for all occasions.
