What People Are Saying About La Fendee

In Short – The dining room at this casual Mediterranean restaurant is quiet and comfortable, making it a good spot for lunch and conversation. Classics like baba ghanoush, hummus and gyros are combined with crisp Greek salads, falafel and baklava to make light and tasty meals. Lunch plates include a gyro or sandwich, plus salad and a choice of sides.

Mediocre - I'd rather go somewhere else
by NicholasD
Pro: the service was prompt and friendly.
Con: The food is so-so. The hummus and chickedn shawarma(sp?) was mediocre, and the pita bread is tough, chewy, and not very fresh.
For lunch, I got the chick. shwrma entre with tabouli & hummus as my sides + iced tea. My waiter did give me good, friendly service, so I tipped him $3.00. Total spent was $18 - don't feel that's a very good value considering the quality of the food and the fact that it was lunch.
nobody speaks english there...i don't get it.

My boyfriend and I went here on Halloween Eve, so maybe the original staff was gone trick or treating and subbed in non-english speaking staff, who knows.
We were harshly greeted by a girl saying "Are you eating here or to go?" - regrettably, we decided to eat there outside on the patio.
My boyfriend and I looked at the menu, which to be honest, looked a bit sad. No lamb kabobs for one, and nothing special or worth salivating over.
I decided to order the gyro plate and my boyfriend ordered the beef kabob. What happened next should have been a big red flag for us to leave, but we decided to stay. So we ask the waitress "Can you make the beef 'medium rare'?" ...she had the most puzzled look on her face as if it had never been asked before. After an awkward silence, she said "The meat is blood"....
...ok...what???!!
So we reiterated the question in a simpler form: "Can you cook the meat so that it is a little red inside? Make it 'medium rare'?" ...she still didn't understand. After another awkward silence, we decided to just squash it and tell her "Nevermind".
Also forgot to mention: we brought our own wine to enjoy and found out the corking fee was a whopping $6. SIX DOLLARS?!?!?!? First of all, it was a screw-top bottle. Second of all, we didn't get legitimate wine glasses. Instead, we got cheap plastic looking cups. What a rip off.
Anyway, the cook came out and clarified our order (he spoke a LITTLE bit of english... kind of a relief) and he understood for the most part what we were talking about.
When our food came out, we weren't impressed. The portions were small and it looked like very generic mediterranean food. Mine wasn't too gross, but I really thought it'd be better. And get this, my boyfriend's meat wasn't even cooked medium rare!
Our order came out to be $30-ish something dollars and I really should have tipped nothing. Instead, I decided to tip $4. What a waste. I will never return here.

nasty. worst shawarma in the city. went at lunch time, I was the only customer. the so called chicken smelled and tasted nasty. pretty sure the hummous is from a can...and the bread was probably 2-3 days old. so dissapointing.
what happened to the old la fendee?
by houstonswf
i used to love this place, but ever since it went under new ownership the quality has really diminished. too bad, it used to be such a gem.
- Pros: Example: best croissants in town
- Cons: What are the drawbacks?
