“It has a great ambiance and when the whether permits, sitting outside is very nice.”
“They don' t have a liquor license so you can bring your own wine which is always nice.”
“This is a great, casual place to get some delicious Mediterranean food!”
“Their menu is great for vegetarians and their carnivore friends!”
“What is a good mediterranean place without good pita bread?”
“would go back if they had soft, fresh pita, especially since you can get great food and not crusty pita a few blocks down the road.”
“The staff is very friendly.”
“Good price for what you get, my husband and I can stuff ourselves for under $15.”
“Delicious, fun spot, slow service”
Mediocre - I'd rather go somewhere else.
Pro: the service was prompt and friendly.
Con: The food is so-so. The hummus and chickedn shawarma(sp?) was mediocre, and the pita bread is tough, chewy, and not very fresh.
For lunch, I got the chick. shwrma entre with tabouli & hummus as my sides + iced tea. My waiter did give me good, friendly service, so I tipped him $3.00. Total spent was $18 - don't feel that's a very good value considering the quality of the food and the fact that it was lunch.
nobody speaks english there...i don't get it..
My boyfriend and I went here on Halloween Eve, so maybe the original staff was gone trick or treating and subbed in non-english speaking staff, who knows.
We were harshly greeted by a girl saying "Are you eating here or to go?" - regrettably, we decided to eat there outside on the patio.
My boyfriend and I looked at the menu, which to be honest, looked a bit sad. No lamb kabobs for one, and nothing special or worth salivating over.
I decided to order the gyro plate and my boyfriend ordered the beef kabob. What happened next should have been a big red flag for us to leave, but we decided to stay. So we ask the waitress "Can you make the beef 'medium rare'?" ...she had the most puzzled look on her face as if it had never been asked before. After an awkward silence, she said "The meat is blood"....
...ok...what???!!
So we reiterated the question in a simpler form: "Can you cook the meat so that it is a little red inside? Make it 'medium rare'?" ...she still didn't understand. After another awkward silence, we decided to just squash it and tell her "Nevermind".
Also forgot to mention: we brought our own wine to enjoy and found out the corking fee was a whopping $6. SIX DOLLARS?!?!?!? First of all, it was a screw-top bottle. Second of all, we didn't get legitimate wine glasses. Instead, we got cheap plastic looking cups. What a rip off.
Anyway, the cook came out and clarified our order (he spoke a LITTLE bit of english... kind of a relief) and he understood for the most part what we were talking about.
When our food came out, we weren't impressed. The portions were small and it looked like very generic mediterranean food. Mine wasn't too gross, but I really thought it'd be better. And get this, my boyfriend's meat wasn't even cooked medium rare!
Our order came out to be $30-ish something dollars and I really should have tipped nothing. Instead, I decided to tip $4. What a waste. I will never return here.
nasty. worst shawarma in the city. went at lunch time, I was. nasty. worst shawarma in the city. went at lunch time, I was the only customer. the so called chicken smelled and tasted nasty. pretty sure the hummous is from a can...and the bread was probably 2-3 days old. so dissapointing.
what happened to the old la fendee?. i used to love this place, but ever since it went under new ownership the quality has really diminished. too bad, it used to be such a gem.
LOVE this place. My husband and I live in Katy and take trips downtown just to eat here. We love the chicken schwarma (sp?), teboulah (sp?) and hummus. I haven't found another Med. restaurant that I like as much as La Fendee (in my area anyways). Convienently, it is located close to my sister-in-law's hair salon...so everytime I get my hair done I treat myself to lunch here! HIGHLY recommend for a great meal!
The food is pretty good but the service.....
The first time I went the service was slow
and the waitress was completely incompetent.
How could the waitress confuse our dishes as someone
elses when there are only three other tables in the whole restaurant.
Seriously! The food is pretty good, but I have to agree with a
previous comment about the chicken beingdry....
The hookah is ok, other than that it's a pretty nice place to chillax...
Delicious, fun spot, slow service. The patio is a really nice place to hang out, despite the fact that it sits on Westheimer. I like all the food here, taboulleh, chicken shawarma, grilled beef kabob, kafta, you name it! They have argile if you are into that. It's about 2 dollars overpriced on most dishes in my opinion, but definitely the best Arabic food in the neighborhood. The only thing is that the staff is SLOOOOW. I'm not talking about the Mediterranean style of letting you take things at a leisurely pace... just plain slow! They disappear for ages and ages, no chance of a quick meal if that's what you want.
Better food at McDonalds.
The beef swarma was horrible. The humus did not taste like humus. The eggplant made me gag.
Do not go to this place.
Great gyros!. We have been regular patrons of this restaurant for a few years now. Their service is not always right on the mark but their food definitely compensates for any other deficiencies. We go for the gyros and split a chef's sampler. SO GOOD! They don' t have a liquor license so you can bring your own wine which is always nice.
