Really Bad Service!. The food wasn't bad....but the service, .....I don't know where to begin. The only thing I can really say that may give you the big picture is that, .... I am guessing that they are getting the staff from some type of prison work / release program. The two women bartenders were dirty looking and one had visible tatoos. They were not concerned about the guest, but they were very engrossed in each other.... Our waiter was not much better. He was inept and not very nice. I do wonder why they keep people like this? Is it really that hard to find someone decent to work in a restaurant.
Best on the Kemah Boardwalk!!!. I have been to several Saltgrass restaurants, but this one was the best. Good food, good service.....Wow!!!! Much better than any of the other Boardwalk restaurants.....
Terrible terrible service!! Won't give you empty window seat. Today, when we requested a window seat at Noon, Jessica told us that there were no window seats for a table of 5. I have a picture of how empty the restaurant was--there were 3 tables for 6 along the main window and more along the side. There were only about 6 tables seated in the entire restaurant (of maybe 50 tables??) She tried to insist that we sit near the front door/restroom and it was only when we started to leave that another hostess offered to "push two tables together" then immediately led us over to a one-piece table for 6 by the window (weird?). The restaurant was dead, there were large tables everywhere, waiters were leaning against every wall "hanging out" and looking really bored, and the first part of our lunch visit was quite dampened by the surly nature of the hostess who refused to seat us at the tables in plain sight (she subsequently sat a 2-top right next to us at another 6-person table, but argued with our party of 5?) then rolled her eyes at us when we asked for her name. Last visit, we were a party of 3 and were told that we could not have an empty window seat, and 5 minutes later the table we wanted was given to a 2-person party.
Not recommended!. My fiance and I had lunch here and we left disappointed. I had the prime rib, which resembled a fatty round steak. I think it had more fat than actual meat on it. The prices were high. The waitstaff however was good to us. They allowed us to move to a better table, out of the bright sun.
Poor Service. We have given this restaurant several chances - the food is fairly good. We will probably avoid dining here in the future because of the poor service we have experienced on at least 3 different occasions. I think it is a teamwork/management issue. Our waiter always disappears and we cannot get our drinks refilled or order dessert, ask for our check. We have received incorrect or missing orders, then one person in our party has to wait for their meal while the rest eat. Just not worth the hassle.
A comfortable, unpretentious family steakhouse with a strong Texas flavor..
In Short
The setting is homey and pure Texas, including the Hill Country-style stonework along the entranceway. The service can be a little erratic, but the reasonably priced and well-cooked fare makes up for it. Steak and prime rib are not the only specialities here. They also have great potatoes, including the baked-potato soup, and more Texas-sized options including the two-fork cheesecake and the addictive Shiner Bock beer bread.
Great Steaks in Kemah. Our waiter Sean was great! Very attentive, personable and knowlegeable. Just what you'd want in a waiter. We enjoyed our meal very much. The appetizers were wonderful and the steaks delectable - Tender and juicy! Their chef knew what Med-Rare meant. I'd recommend the Bleu Cheese Butter on your steak - even tastes good leftover. Can't comment on the dessert - we didn't have room!! - but they looked good. On the pricey side, but worth the amount of food.
Highly Recommend.

My fiancee and I go here together, or with her kids, and we all love it. There are pricier places and cheaper places. But for great steak and service, Saltgrass cannot be beat. Also, the fried mushrooms are super.
