Editorial Review for Mantra/Club Ice – by Citysearch Staff
In Short
Downstairs, Mantra's ornate Far Eastern-harem decor is conducive to lounging and low-key people-watching. Those in the mood to dance (DJs play top 40 music) head upstairs to Club Ice where the large bar, dance floor and VIP rooms await. Couples gather on the spacious outdoor balcony draped in twinkling lights and oversized chairs for a stunning view of Main Street. The atmosphere is surprisingly laid-back considering the see-and-be-seen set packs the house on the weekends.

My friend and I are two young physicians in town who have been here for less than a year. We decided to relax and enjoy a night out. We stumbled upon Mantra and decided to check it out. We waited in line for 20-30min. In front of us were a couple of gentlemen with their girl friends. The girls, of course, were allowed in but the guys were not because of some excuse I heard in reference to their clothing. This reasoning may have sufficed for most...however, I saw more than a few individuals standing in the doorway and leaving the establishment who were dressed in a similar fashion. The only difference, unfortunately, was the ethnic persuasion of those individuals. We continued to wait and wait...until it was made known to me that we were not being allowed in because of my dreadlocks (which I keep clean and manicured). WHAT??? Ha...Yeah. You know...what if I decided not to see a patient because of their appearance or their ethnicity??? Ha...wow...amazing. Just when you thought the world was changing. Well, needless to say, they will not receive financial support from me, my colleagues, or any of my friends. And I really would ask that anyone who reads this review consider this particular event before they decide to venture to Mantra. Man, what an unsavory taste this has left with me. P.S. I really hope this is allowed to be read because people should know who and what they are supporting!!! Thank you.
