The servers range from awful to average. But go anyway! Go because you want a lazy Sunday afternoon experience any day of the week. Go because the food is delicious, especially brunch (I recommend the migas plate or the migas tacos). Go because it's a good value. It's BYOB so bring mimosas or beer to make the time pass faster while you're waiting for some service.
BEWARE ! ! ! !.
Took my wife and 11yr old daughter to Dry Creek Cafe on 09/05/2010 MADE ALL 3 OF US SICK AS DOGS. STOMACH CRAMPS, VOMITING, DIARREAHA. We all had different dishes and it made each of us horribly sick.. woke up about 1:30am with cramps so bad couldnt even get out of bed ! ! BEWARE ! ! !
WE WILL NEVER EVER GO BACK ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Citysearch Editorial Review. Like all the other members of the Creek family (see: Onion, Cedar), Dry Creek is made Austin-themed with worn road signs and the shade of leafy oak trees. Given the similarity in attitude between Austin and the Heights, it makes sense that the patio of this laid-back café is always brimming with regulars in jeans and flip-flops. It’s popular as much for the ambiance as for the food, which sticks mainly to burgers and salads. The backyard barbeque fare gets a kick from distinctive condiments such as Tabasco mayo and lemon aioli and we get a kick out of the BYOB policy.
Really good. I got the regular bad ass burger cooked medium rare with Asadero cheese, on Texas Monthly's recommendations. The cheese didn't add any flavor but the burger was juicy and delicious and cooked perfectly.
Fun place!. It has height's written all over it! Fun unique place for happy hour, week day lunches, and dinners. Wonderful burgers and chicken sandwiches. The salads are great, the services is good, and the value is decent.
Good Food Ruined by Bad Service.
I really, really want to like Dry Creek, it's in my neighborhood and the food is quite tasty. I like "Austin Atmosphere" But the service! I keep having bad experiences, swearing to never go back , changing my mind, giving them another chance and then realizing nothing has changed.
The staff does not want to wait on the customers. Service is slow, orders are wrong or incomplete, drinks are not refilled and customers are ingnored - the staff has "avoid all eye contact " down to both an art and a science. On my last (and it will be my last) visit the waiter I gave the waiter a $20 for a check that was under $10. He gave me back and empty folder and the service certainly was not worth a $10 tip. I had to find to manager to get the bill corrected and get my change back. I don't want to frequent a place that makes me feel I have to guard my wallet.
A nice place when there is good weather.. I am new from Peru and found this place near my home. It is a great place when the weather is nice. Inside is okay and the service was okay.
Awesome burgers, awkward restaurant; to go please!. So.... the triple bypass burger is amazing! The most unhealthy concoction is loaded with flavor and worth all the extra exercise needed. I like Dry Creek for takeout. Nice to pick up and go. The waitstaff seems "Montrose eclectic" from a distance but up close is actually "tries way too hard Austin". You get this vibe of how cool they feel they are and the whole "wait to be seated" sign leaves you scratching your head. Wait? Really? For what?
the heights of bad breakfast.
my hubby and i went here again the other wednesday for breakfast. it's a good location for our heights locality, and seemed like an easy choice to offer than another chance at breakfast.
it was still bad. very bad. we arrived at about 10 AM and they had the music very loud.
too loud for breakfast. the table was so sticky the mr. had to try twice to PEEL the laminated menu off the table. (we sat inside) i ordered wheat toast and he had an egg, meat, muffin and grits breakfast. it was greasy. my toast was grilled not toasted. and it tasted like a dirty grill not like toasted bread. my god, it's toast! how can you screw up toast?
the service was not really interested in us, they were more concerned with each other. though they seemed to be part of some thing in the restaurant... it was not our meal or our service.
yuck! we will never go back.
and you'll waste your time and money if you do.
might as well take the drive into town until someone sorts out breakfast in the heights.
Decent Food, Crappy Kitchen....
We were enticed by the existing reviews and the BYOB aspect to go here last night. We brought wine, beer, etc. We sat ourselves outside because the place was empty and no hostess.
Our waitress was prompt, polite, and able to help. She took our orders in a timely manner and put it in.
3 of the 4 orders were incorrect or mixed and matched. 1 order had extras that were not asked for, another did not come with the correct side, and the other was completely wrong (ordered a turkey burger and got a regular burger).
The waitress read off the order correctly again and went to remedy the situation. The correct turkey burger came out 30 minutes later after 2 more attempts at having the kitchen fix it. Everyone else was finished with their food (decent, not great, but reasonably priced) at this point, thankfully we brought drinks along.
We asked for the manager and she did give us 50% off due to all of the trouble.
Onion creek is right down the road and can fit the bill better for dinner.
