“Don't get me wrong: the ambiance is nice, the decor is modern, and the staff is attentive.”
“And if all the food and drinks aren't good enough - the service was impeccable.”
“The vegetables are as fresh as the fish, & the light flavors are perfectly & delicately balanced in everything form the miso soup to the salad & any roll you order.”
“While they offer a great variety of sushi that always tastes fresh, it is not worth the experience as a whole.”
“It's also not a good place if you have more than 4 people in your party because their aren't very many tables, and most of them seemed to be for 2 people.”
“The atmosphere is trendy and nice, I want to go back for evening cocktails sometime at the pretty bar.”
“When I pointed this out they got all defensive and the manager was pretty rude with his excuses (note - not apologies).”
“Service was lacking, cocktails were yummy but weak, and prices are a bit over the top.”
“:) For your cocktail - you have many sakes to choose from, the regular cocktails, but what you really must see is their long list of unique martinis!”

Snoody Sushi?.
Where to start.
Uptown is definitely beautiful, fun for a lunch or dinner, but it is not a comfortable, friendly, restaurant. Although it is high end, my service lately has not been up to par with other nice sushi restaurants, mainly Katsuya and 400 Sage.
They have a good sunomono, but I was not taken away.
Best Service, Sushi, and drinks!.
I never write reviews, but I just had to!
Uptown Sushi is my fave place to eat, and I go there at least 2x's\month. Waiters are so nice and always willing to recommend something great. Food is amazing. I recommend:
Appetizer: Kobe Beef Hot Rock or the Teriyaki Rib-Eye Maki
Sushi Roll: all of them are amazing, really.
Also, their edamame is always perfect here.
Drinks: Lychee martinis are amazing or they always have a great wine selection if that's your preference.
Overall perfect place for all occasions, very classy and swanky. Love!!
Houston's BEST sushi!!!. The ambience is perfect!! Uptown sushi always has fresh top quality sushi. The food is consistent and great!!! The staff is very knowledgeable about the menu and can help recommend a roll. The rolls are even artistically presented. I highly recommend the Teriyaki Rib-Eye Maki for an appetizer!!! I get it everytime. It just melts in your mouth! I recently tried the Lobster and Shrimp Rolls which are perfect. Fellas it is a great date spot to take your wonderful lady!! Ladies great spot for girls nights out!! You won't be disappointed, in fact you will be BLOWN away with the great service and satisfying rolls!!!
Excellent food, great service nice atmosphere. Although the bar scene here has changed remarkably over the years, the food has remained consistent. The sushi is always fresh, the rolls are delish and the Lychee martini's are the best in the city. We love uptown sushi!
Changes here and definitely for the good. Though I read varying reports of the restaurant & had my guard up, it was quickly dropped from the first encounter inside the door. Very friendly staff in a non-obtrusive manner. Great decor. The sushi was excellent as was the sake (so much to choose from). The manager (very nice) stopped by our table to see how everything was, and not in the usual looking-over-your-shoulder for the next table on his "to do list," but genuinely focused on us. For the price ($$), it had a great atmosphere and everyone was so down to earth. I don't care what cars were in the parking lot, this place is for everyone & worth the money!
Good service and Great Ambiance. I only want to give this place 3 stars because the service is very good, and boasts a pretty good ambiance. However the selection of sushi is not that great. Overpriced and not that great. Sorry guys!
bmws and audis. so my tuned civic was alittle different there heh. anyway, the food was decent enough and the place was pretty cool to even have stayed for a few drinks. me and my friend were just there for a quick bite before the club and it was good enough. 3 on the food and 4 stars for the place itself.i went on a saturday at like 10pm.
Dress Code Eclipses the Atmosphere.
I think I saw "The Situation" there this past Saturday. Seriously, we saw a guy flexing wearing one of those tight t-shirts with scrolls.
What happened to this soft, serene lounge? Sushi places should be more Zen. It was very bridge and tunnel, and they should implement a dress code.
My friend who joined us said that he had to have a drink to erase the background of the patrons. The service at the bar was good and the music was fair; however, we just stayed for one drink. The lychee martinis are their specialty.
They may need to change the feng shui up a bit. They have a small TV at the bar which attracts sports fans. I like watching sports...but not when the TV emits a blue-white glow amongst the pale lighting of the restaurant. It reminds me of the glow while watching TV from bed.
I doubt I will return here for the fear that I will see Snookie and her orange glow.
Cockroach running across table makes for a bad night!.
A good friend of mine, who is a regular (comes here once a week or once every two weeks), and I went to Uptown last night; and it's probably going to be awhile until we return again, if we ever do.
Don't get me wrong: the ambiance is nice, the decor is modern, and the staff is attentive. However, there were two things that really bothered us. For the last three times we have gone here, we have found either a scale or a fish bone in our sushi/sashimi. But what really ruined our appetite was that as we were eating, a cockroach (not the ones that come from outdoors but the ones that are known for infestation) was running across our table, hiding under different plates as we attempted to catch it. Eventually, we killed it with our napkin and alerted the manager about it. The restaurant's response: Dessert is on us (as if we would want to eat any more food after seeing a roach run across our food). We stopped eating, obviously. Then, instead of comping our fish, they give us a $20 discount. Call is psychosomatic but we both felt like we had bugs on our bodies and started itching our skin.
The food was quite unsettling and it was a HUGE disappointment that 1) a cockroach was scurrying across our table and food and 2) the restaurant's response was to still charge us for the sushi but compensate our disgusted appetites by discounting the total bill by $20. They could have done much better than that.
What a disappointing evening.
Great Food, Great Price. Love this place. It has such an elegant interior that makes you feel like you're dining fine, but the prices wont bust your budget. I'm not sure what happened when blanch_69 was there, but my server was friendly & timely. I'd bring my family, friends, and even co-workers back there anytime!
