“And the view from the second floor was great as the sun went down and the lights of the city came on.”
“We had the strawberry shortcake for desert which was good also.”
“Best steak in town, great wine and service is stellar”
“The food and service are wonderful and the wine list, though a little pricey, is very inclusive.”
“The service was OK - our waiter was very helpful and knowledgable about the menu, BUT.”
“My synopsis: great place if you're in to spending $160 on two less than Outback quailty steaks and two martini's.”
“For a meal that was "good" and service that was disrespectful, I see no need to return and support this business.”
“lol The service was not bad but it can improve; our waiter tried to bee too atentive and kept interrupting our conversation while we tried to chew up our food.”
“Overall the steaks were very good but I've had similar quality steaks for half the price.”
“After extremely slow service, 45 minutes for 3 steaks to come on a slow Saturday at lunch time, one of the three steaks was overcooked.”
Fraud Waiter. Food is good. But our waiter has lied saying that our gift card has only 200 while it has 250$ in it and we never received our receipt. We were quite shocked by this behaviour....top floor waiter..beware.
DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE.
ROACHES ROACHES ROACHES ROACHES ROACHES.
We have there many times before with family and friends every time we were in Houston and for New Years Eve, thinking that was as very good restaurant, last Saturday, me and my family we seated close to the server station in the upper level, and a big roach come over the "clean" plates and napkins, was disgusting, I ask for the "manager" is a clown trying to be a manager and he never never offer me an apology for that situation, and he told me if I don't pay the bill he will call the police. Is that the right way to apology with your clients???? BE SURE THAT NEVER NEVER WE ARE GOING THERE, AND TO TELL ALL OUR FRIENS IN HOUSTON AND IN MEXICO THE KIND OF RESTAURANT THEY ARE!!!!
Bummer..... Was looking forward to going for a long time. Prices were very high and food was nothing extraordinary. Will not be going again. Too many other steak places in Houston for this place to survive much longer.
Worst SteakHouse from NYC to L.A.. The second floor is cozy because it's so cold it will freeze you to death and freeze your food before you can eat it. The bread was cold in the center of the loaf. I give it a 4. The baked potato is baked daily but hours before it's served to you. It arrived barely warm. I could not get the butter to melt on it. I give it a 6 and that's pushing it. I had to pick out the pieces of lettuce that had refrigerator burn, but what was left was not too bad so I give it a 7. The cook really knew how to cook the steak and I give him a 10, but the meat was not of the highest quality. I doubt that it was Prime. I even doubt that it was Choice. I give the meat an 8 and that is being kind. My wife and I hoped to have a good meal there but were very diappointed. I gave all of these ratings to the servers and all they could say was that they would tell the cook. They wanted my money and did not give a darn how they got it. If they don't get their act together, the market place will put them out of business and that will be a blessing to their poor customers. Now if you want to go there and get drunk and avoid the food you will probably do O.K. But I call that a BoozeHouse and not a SteakHouse.
Great Manager and Happy Hours.
I've been here several times over the years. The crowd is older, and there is a crowd so get there early for a seat. I normally have fun here, but I think it's because I'm usually with fun company here. I have several funny friends who like it here.
The waitstaff is really friendly and courteous. The general manager is jovial, like it's his birthday and all of his friends (yourself included) showed up to throw him a party.
Their happy hour cookouts on Fridays in October are fun too. Their food is always prime fresh. They serve a colorful salad, bbq wings, thick sliders, grilled vegetables, chips & salsa, and an assortment of mini cupcakes. They have generous $7 premium vodka martinis, and they are very strong (just order one, really) and $4 wines. You will have to wait a bit too long for a drink. They also host gratis scotch tastings.
I prefer to sit inside in the bar area especially when the French doors are open. It's a little too dark upstairs in the dining area, but it's a good place to chat.
Not comparable to NY S&W. Not comparable to NYC, this place will drag down the brand. Food quality low side of average - better steaks at Costco,. Preparation was not great, which made the quality issues worse and garnish was terrible. Waiter takes your order, some preoccupied guy that looks like he was just cleaning the kitchen shows up with the meal and drops it on the table without a word. Layout is a jumble, booths to an open terrace where people in T shirts and jeans are seated around couples in suits and evening dress. Pricing way to high given food quality, ambiance and indifferent (at best) service.
What's the hype?. Not really sure what "vibe" they're going for, but the host was really the only employee that I encountered who treated me like I was about to spend $75 on my dinner. The wait staff seemed too casual, forgetting to offer my table bread while the other tables all had a basket. My specific waiter made three appearances. 1) Take my order and suggest the most expensive of all items regardless of my questions about other items 2) Pops head in: "You doin' OK?" Thumbs up. Pops out. 3) After I flagged him down for my bill. Didn't thank me. Honestly didn't care if I had a good dining experience. But he sure liked watching whatever football game was on TV. For a meal that was "good" and service that was disrespectful, I see no need to return and support this business.
A Memorable Experience.
I don't understand how so many people could rate this place 1 or 2 stars. I went on Tuesday night and had a wonderful meal...worth the cost. I worked in the food business for many years so I know good food and I know good service and this place had them both.
My party (6 of us) gave highest marks to the Wolensky salad, prime rib, crab cakes and chocolate cake. The bone-in rib eye was good, as were the creamed spinach and potatoes. And of course, the wine and drinks were good. The waiters were so attentive. They made the meal special. And the view from the second floor was great as the sun went down and the lights of the city came on. Great atmosphere.
My only complaint was that I was freezing. I was in city shorts and sleeveless top. The waiters are in jackets so the temperature is set for them. I will be more covered up next time. And I definitely hope there is a next time. Go for it Wade. Don't let the complainers scare you away. Maybe go on a week night like I did when the crowds are smaller.
Roller Coaster reviews. It's a shame that S&W's gets such a roller coaster ride of up and down reviews. I've wanted to try it for over a year now. But with the horrible, to mediocre reviews on here lately, I will heed commenters' advice, and look elsewhere.
Overpriced, Cold Food, Useless Service ..... Arrived for prime time Saturday dinner, pleasant hostess gave us a choice of seating locations; chose a nice quiet booth. Had to shuffle between two different waiters before we finally received our requested bread; food waiter was totally dis-interested - took our order, eventually dropped off food and forgot to bring the condements we requested, couldn't get any wiaters attention to rectify this lack of service and didn't fancy getting up to search for someone...ate and eventually got waiters attention to clear the table. Advised the waiter that we weren't happy with the lack of service and cold food; he offered to comp a desert that we weren't interested in. Finally got our bill and left. Enjoyed the St Emillion...won't return. Can easily get a better meal, and exceptional service elsewhere.
