Steak Night is GREAT food! Service was fair.. Not sure about why the service was so slow for others - I have been twice now on Wednesday "Steak" Night, and the service was fair to good. The steaks were GREAT!! I don't like the fact that they don't all work as a team. You have to pay separate tabs for the steak as for the beer, and if a waitress visits you while eating your steak, and you order beer from her... its another tab to pay off. Other than that, I'd say find a seat on a Wednesday and enjoy!! I'll be back!

This is Texas, not New York City. I agree with all the negative comments posted, very, very, very poor service. The bartenders especially are arrogant & unattentive. The whole premise of "Tavern" is transitory, a place of social interaction & good times. That begins with the employees! There is not one iota of appreciation conveyed to patrons for their business, more or less any friendliness offered. I just sat there, empty glass, waiting long past a reasonable amount of time while the bartendress waltzed back & forth as if I wasn't even there. And then, when I try to be friendly I get a vibe back as if I were a player trying to take somebody home! And that is so not me or my style, I'm just a friendly guy. Why in the world do I need to go somewhere like this place after a hard day's work or on my free time?? Forget it! I shouldn't be treated poorly because of others not tipping, they should be remembered & THEN treated poorly. I'm a great tipper unless treated poorly, so no, I didn't tip well. Maybe if the service were better they would get tipped, the vicious cycle would die & the world would be a better place!

Come on Tavern on Gray, get it together... keep Houston a great place to live.

Don't go!!!. This is a place my friends and I frequently visit. But not anymore!!!! Our waitress was very rude. We paid our tab with a credit card. We were going to leave her a cash tip. So, she proceded to come over and tell us that we stiffed her on her tip(although I had her cash tip in my hand ready to hand to her) and that she informed the next waitress not to come over and serve us. We spend alot of money there. I guess someone else with better service and nicer waitstaff will get it now.

Popular spot is part sports bar, part hook-up joint.. In Short
A Union Jack above the ivy-covered entrance pays homage to the traditional English pub. Inside, affable patrons dish lively conversation while watching sports (think American football, as opposed to the European variety) on one of many TVs. Cozy booths are an added bonus. Crowds may be lured here for spirits and sports, but other diversions include an Internet jukebox that plays more than 130,000 songs, a raucous karaoke night (every Tuesday) and good pub grub.

Sports Bar, Karaoke, they have it all. Tavern is a great place to just sit back and relax with a few friends and drinks. They have pool, tvs, air hockey, and much, much more. You do not have to worry about outdoing the Joneses here....it is all about comfortable fun. Check out their Industry Night and karaoke...

Worst Service. The first time I tried out The Tavern the service was unfriendly from the moment I sat at the bar. I went back 2 more times (with a group of friends) and each time the service got worse, downright rude. The bartenders expect to be tipped well before they provide you any service at all. If you tip on the basis of their service, they have the manager come over and tell you to leave. I will never go back and I tell everyone to do the same. Afterward, I checked other reviews here on Citysearch and everyone of them complained how bad the service was. Then a few weeks later, the reviews had been removed.

Times vary. The happy hour crowd is great, but on the weekends I'd stay away.

They remember. Tips, Tips, Tips remember these people work on tips. Take it as a positive or a negative I think its positive. When I go to the Tavern I know I am going to get a good drink at a good price. Thats may be because they know I won't leave em with 4 bucks on a 60 dollar tab. Im not saying they are money hungry here but if they see you thowing down a quarter or something on a round of drinks you might be wating a bit longer for your next. A busy crowded bar creates busy bartenders and makes you hard to see if you cheap.

what tha ? was that?. St. Patrick's Day at Tavern was horrible. Explain to me how you are going to charge $5 for guys and nothing for girls, then about an hour and a half later, jack the price up to $10 a person? Oh, and don't get me started on the stupid port o' potties. That was a nightmare. Women should not be able to go in as pairs. It was a mess, unless you are a college kid, then it's probably right up your alley.

It's about time. I'm glad the Tavern on gray has finally stepped up to this site. Good times, good drink, and a decent family. Sometimes the service might be kinda slow but the view denies lack of talent. Plenty of activities to choose from (pool, trivia, golden tee, foosball, darts, ping pong, air hockey, megatouch and alcoholic consumption). A good place to start the night and just as good to end the night. Be careful where you park (there's a couple of restless neighbors who's only hobby is to have you towed. You'd swear they get a cut.) Anyway, relaxed atmosphere, but not too relaxed. The door nazi will seldom fold so make sure to bring your I.D. and leave your tank tops at home. Good times.
