This ill-maintained hotel is run by incompetent people. We booked a nonsmoking room. When we got to our room, the entire 3rd floor reeked of cigarettes and there were dead insects in front of the door. The air conditioning didn't work. The internet access didn't work in the room. The person who answered my call to the hotel's "tech support" said the hotel's internet access almost never works in most of its rooms but usually the internet access worked in the lobby. Maintenance could not fix the AC problem so we got a second room. It didn't smell of smoke, but was no cleaner, and the air conditioning was positively frigid, no way to get a comfortable temperature. One bed lacked a blanket and when we asked for another, we were given a bedspread. (which had a cigarette burn in it). The "safety rail" in the tub was completely unhinged at one end. The tub didn't drain properly, so taking a shower after returning from the beach means standing in about three inches of sandy water while bathing. Our room was not cleaned in between our first and second night stay. On our second night, one of the two (very slow) elevators ceased and the toilet in our room ceased to flush. A call to maintenance brought a nice young man working the night shift. He explained that the toilets weren't flushing because one of their water pipes had fallen loose. That pipe turned out to be the hotel emergency fire extinguisher system. I went into the lobby to use the internet. An extremely rude employee asked why I was in the lobby when it wasn't breakfast hours. When I told her what the tech support guy told me, she simply walked away. The bath towels are as rough as sand paper, the pool is an indoor pool filled with murky water and the fitness center is not a room in which anyone would want to work out. This was an expensive and unpleasant hotel stay and I recommend to all that they do not stay at the Comfort Inn and Suites on the seawall in Galveston.

I was a little put out that we were unable to take our breakfast to our room. There's already a fridge and microwave, so food is expected to be in there. Also, we turned the heater on and the room began to smell and the smoke alarm went off. The use of tile in the halls made it noisy. Ok for a night, but wouldn't want to stay there for a long vacation.
