From political rallies to avant-garde jazz, this space celebrates neo-hippie ideals and fringe culture.. The Scene
Members of the band Organ Failure have re-imagined this former church and site of the Ashland Street Theater as a colorful, communal fantasyland that focuses on the fun of creating art, rather than the intellectual act of judging art. Child-like drawings of strange animals pervade the 100-seat main room. Rounding out the remaining space are the Mad monkey theater (a space for smaller productions), a cafe, an art gallery and a back yard filled with beach chairs and a fire pit.

The Draw
Rice radio addicts, the Free Press crowd and random agitators gather together for events as varied as vegan barbecues, puppet shows and drum circles. Kill time between performances by reading the wall-to-wall anti-Bush sentiments in the bathroom or have your photo taken with the official mascot, Lovey the cat. There's not much food available, but if you ask nicely, Olivia will pass around some of her excellent bean dip.
