Mugsy's

It is five o'clock somewhere in the world.

  • Martini happy hour
  • Great spot for a date
  • Unique tucked away bar

Somewhere in the world it's five o'clock. Come into Mugsy's, the hidden gem right off of Kirby between Cafe Express and Dessert Gallery. This is the perfect place for happy hour after work or for a late night. With a casual and friendly neighborhood atmosphere, you're sure to have the best time.

Gregg Alston, owner of Mugsy's (who named the bar after his father)has assembled the best staff in Houston. Try one of our specialty drinks, such as the Ruby Rick, The Red Apple Martini and many more unique concoctions. If you are a beer conossuier, we have the perfect beer to quench your thirst.

Editorial Review for Mugsy's – by Citysearch Editors

In Short
No password is needed to access this bygone-era establishment, but gentlemen must remove their hats before entering. Owner and full-time bartender Greg Alston (who named the bar after his father) honors the customs and styles of the Lost Generation while tending to the whims of Generation X. Two gold trimmed mirrors hanging on opposite brick walls reflect light from candles placed on every table, helping to set the mood. It's a great place for friendly (or romantic) conversation.

Insider Tips

Know Before You Go

No food is served here but Cafe Express and Dessert Gallery, just around either corner, are open until 11pm on weekends.

The Extras

Money back guarantee: if you can honestly say that the owner's bloody mary isn't the best you've ever tasted, he'll pay for it out of his own pocket.

Look Good

Check out the owner's other bar, Leon's Lounge.

I am a die hard regular at Mugsys. I started hanging out here because it was a friendly casual place to chill with friends. I continue going here because it very quickly becomes the place where everyone knows you and you can be comfortable with a dozen friends or by yourself.

Pros: Large drinks/shots. Good discounts for industry workers.

Cons: Can get a little loud on some friday nights.
