Houston >My Dog & Me
“Facility size is big, and it suppose to be an ideal place for your dog to have fun in hot summer and raining day.”
“schedule/classes/etc., great variety of dog stuff (a bit overpriced but good selection).”
“I've been through training and playtimes and find My Dog & Me a great place to spend with your dog!”
“The owner/trainer/manager is Heinous!”
“They are located in a huge facility, with separate training center, activity center, re.”
The owner is a rude nut job!. The woman who owns this place litterally YELLS at people if their dog has an accident. Excuse me but dogs should be expected to have an accident in a new environment? She should not be in this business if she is going to fly off the handle every time a dog pees. She also sprayed my dog in the face because it was playing tug of war with another dog even though the other dog was the one growling and with his hair up. When I removed my dog from the situation, she followed us and continued to spray her - mean bitch! We finally had enough and told her what we though of her after she started yelling at us when our dog had an accident. She needs to be evaluated for a personality disorder and given therapy. Save your money peace of mind and don't go near this place!
STAY AWAY: Dungeon environment & GREEDY owner. Unless you like being treated like $. Stay away!!! Yuck environment, not friendly & GREEDY w/out making any qualms about it! To rent private run it is $15/30 minutes. Asked if I rented it for $15 could my 15 guests come. Absolutely, ea guest pays $15. What? I can rent for $15 & have whole thing. But when I asked if she would lower that to $10 ea (still totaling $150 for 30 minutes) she said she's in business to make a profit. I understand that but there is a difference between making a profit and being greedy! STAY AWAY!
No way, Jose!. We went to an afternoon playdate on a Sunday afternoon. I paid for the hour long event and the moment we went in, Lorelei, the personality deficient owner, ordered everyone outside for a 15 min potty break... Really??? When I asked her why we had to go out when we just arrived, she bit my head off and told me if we insisted, we could stay but implied there would be hell to pay if my pup pottied inside. Whatever, you nasty hag! That is your LAST opportunity to be rude to us. I have always tried to support her because I thought she had a great thing going... Boy was i wrong! Never again, " lady." Guess we'll see you working at Petsmart before long! Oh, no, Petsmart has much nicer people working for them.
Stay Away. I know I already posted a review of My Dog and Me, but I just learned that not only is the owner a rude, miserable witch, but during this past Christmas she yelled at the top of her lungs at her employees for no reason. She also would DRAG her dogs by their necks and yell at them. How can she have this posted on her website, "The relationship between dog and owner should be built on LOVE, RESPECT, and good communication. This is the foundation from which great dogs emerge. Thats why our emphasis is on teaching and coaching dog owners who in turn learn how to direct their dogs in any situation." How can she have the audacity to say this is what I teach yet abuse her dogs in such a way. I know this first hand from someone that witnessed it during the holiday season. Ms. Loralei Zwitt how dare you say you are a dog lover when all you do is bully both your employees and dogs. Anyone can have there pets obey if they use intimidation as their tool to control. I challenge you to respond to this review. I am sure your little "minions" are scanning the internet for any negative reviews, So I pray this review gets back to you.
Best Dog Trainer Ever. I had read some of the reviews on this page and was incredulous. I have taken my dogs to My Dog and Me for over a year. We began with Buddy Play, which gives dogs a chance to play with others. For my shy dog, this was terrific. For my active puppy this was great. Having had nothing but positive interactions with both Lorelei and her assistants, I enrolled the puppy in obedience class. There were 8 of us in this class. At no time was there so much as a raised voice. Having paid tuition, I expected Lorelei to teach -- and that included using the methods that she has learned are best for dogs. I have worked with other trainers in the past. Lorelei had the best sense of what a dog needs, how to lead a dog's behavior where you want it, and what to expect as the result of following through with practice. Using only a leash (with a looped collar), hand signals, and treats for rewards, the dogs all did well. I have continued to take my dogs to My Dog and Me several times a week. It has always been a pleasure. Lorelei knows my dogs and has always been willing to answer my questions and guide me in making good decisions for raising my dogs -- always for free. I value her input greatly, and I'm glad to have Lorelei, her assistants, and her facility available to my dogs and me.
Worst customer service ever.. I had some problems with both the owner and manager. They are both very greedy in addition to a level of rudeness I have never known possible.
Training methods are ridiculous!.
I have been breeding and showing dogs for over 35 years, and every dog who stayed with us went through obedience training; not because I don't know how to train, but for the social interaction and distractions provided in a class setting. So I have probably trained 40+ dogs to a relatively high level of obedience in these years. A number of my dogs have earned obedience titles all the way up to UDX, the highest possible.
Loralei, the owner and main trainer, will not allow choke chains of any kind in her class and expects the dogs to respond with ONLY treat training. I brought a dog in who had aggression problems, and trying to control that dog without a choke chain was stupid. I had taken the dog as a puppy through basic obedience at Petsmart, which was great fun and the puppy learned all of the basic commands plus some tricks. We used choke chains and treats and praise.
My dog was trying to eat the other dogs in MDAM class unless we were separated, and Loralei said that with consistent practice, we could get the aggression under control. WRONGG!! She uses her previously aggressive dog, Corey, I think, as an example. But I found out in the process that it took her YEARS to get him stable and that even at his elderly age, she still couldn't trust him. I tried it her way and it was a total failure.
All the reviews about them treating customers rudely is absolutely true, and I am hard to intimidate; but she tries. Her classes are way overpriced, and although I paid for the next level of training, I couldn't go right away due to family situations. She refused to refund my money at all.
I recommend that you try the Houston Obedience Dog Training Club. Just look them up on the internet because they won't let me put their web site name in this review. They use flexible methods for the dogs and don't overcharge. And they offer not only obedience, but rally, tracking and agility, plus Canine Good Citizen training. They offer discounts for multiple dogs or repetitions of a class and understand what is needed to train a dog to your goals. I am NOT a member of the club so I'm not prejudiced. I just know competent training methods, and My Dog and Me does not use them.
I spent a lot of money and got nowhere with my dog until I trained elsewhere using a choke chain, treats, and praise. It works!
And the comments about it being dirty, cold and dank are true. It's a gross old warehouse. And it was featured on TV as being haunted; Loralei thought that was great and encouraged all of her mailing list to watch it. Don't know if it's haunted, but it feels like it is.
Also, my husband and I brought our dogs for a "socialization evening", and we, of course, had the dogs poop before going in and picked it up and disposed of it. One of the two dogs decided to poop again while playing, and Loralei was extremely nasty to my husband and yelled at him while he was picking it up. He will never step foot in there again.
Horrible customer service. Everything you read about the owner having a terse personality is true. Her way IS the only way in her eyes and she will insult potential customers. She may be right, but insulting me and telling me I'm wrong is NOT the way to garner my business. She could offer a suggestion to help me out with my dogs rather than condescendingly telling me I am wrong. She's so clueless that she didn't notice I had several items in my hands that I was ready to purchase but put down and walked out of the store empty handed after she was so rude. I will NEVER patronize her business again.
good experience. i took my dog to beginner's and intermediate obedience classes. the instructor/owner is strict---there's one way to do things and that's her way---but it works. i'm not going to argue with success. there seems to be a lot of very personal criticism of her on this site, which i suspect has nothing to do with her skills. she's not a touchy feely person. but that's not why i went. i did exactly what she taught me to do and it's worked. what else matters?
So/So. A relative used to take my dog here for baths. Every time he came back, he smelled as dirty as when he came there. I thought that the owner was rude, she was working behind the counter. The products are over priced. Some insight into the owner. I recently met someone who knew her many, many years ago. She said that she was once a "pet psychic", manager at Foley's, and always had a very short temper. Then suddenly she started MDAM. She does have a college degree, but the person said he or she doubts that it was in dog sciences. The store was a but dirty, but I have never tried any other services but the bathing when a relative brought my dog. They have poor control over the dogs there b/c a Schnauzer tried to attack my dog when I picked him up that time.
