healthy. My wife likes the healthy options on the menu. I've had the flat iron steak and the chicken with brown rice. Both left me feeling satisfied. It's hard to find a place that serves brown rice without a bunch of junk in it. The service has been good every time.

Love the green eggs and also the meatloaf dish. If I am asked 'where do you want to go to eat?' I always know I can count on food from this place to be yummy... well, at least two dishes that are the only dishes I really order. I don't like swaying. If I find something good, I really stick to it.

Ask them for the horseradish sauce instead of the regular red tomato sauce they serve up with the meatloaf. Tasty!

I'm disappointed b/c they don't have a lot of breadchoices like bagels or engish muffins. I don't even think they have rye bread...

I just remember asking them for 3 different but rather standard restaurant things in a row and they kept on saying, "Nope, we don't have that". I think corn beef has was amongst the list but I forget now.

I will just keep to ordering my two favorites.

On a side note, I did take out one time because I recalled getting a huge helping of guacamole during dine in, but when I did the take out, i was VERY upset when I opened the tiny pint size container that was filled 3/4 with shredded lettuce and a tiny dollop of guac. It was very embarrassing for me because I was bringing it to a Xmas party I was invited to and again... remembered that their dine in helping was so large.

Best food for the price and excellent service. Since moving to Houston I have found Barnaby's on West Gray to be one of my favorite places to eat. We've tried the Barnabys on Shephard but like the atmosphere of the one on West Gray much better.

My favorite is the Lunas Meat Lasagna......and the spinach is great too. My fiance gets the chicken salad and loves it! Keep in mind the portions are generous, you won't be hungry when you leave. I eat a TON of food and I never leave Barnabys feeling hungry. For light eaters I'd suggest getting the half portion if they offer it, that's usually plenty of food for most people. We've tried almost everything on the menu and have always left happy. My fiance and I never spent more than $30 when we go there and that always includes the tip. We usually get a couple of ice teas but if it's a weekend we'll get some wine and the price never goes over that. It's usually under $20 with a tip. I'm usually pretty generous with tips though....

Barnaby's on west gray was actually where my fiance and I met on our first date. I figured great food, atmosphere, service and it wouldn't dent my wallet on a first date ;-) She's been in love with it every since.

We took her family there after we got engaged to show them this restaurant we kept talking about. There were 10 of us and for the whole meal, including the tip, drinks (alcohol and regular drinks), food, and multiple desserts, we paid around $130. I know the waiter helped us out because he liked us, but where can you get a great meal for 10 people on that type of budget??? Everyone was amazed with the service, the GREAT food and we had a fun time. Now when our family comes in from out of town we know where to go!

A few extra tidbits.....

They have done a few updates to the interior to make it look nicer. You may have to park in the street if it's busy but parking is pretty easy. You normally would seat yourself but if you have a large group they will be happy to help you out.

Love this place. The food has never disappointed me, the service is always pretty good. I usually get stuff to-go here though.

The painted ceilings and walls are so cute, and the gayhorhood atmosphere is fun fun fun.

My only qualm, is that the menu doesn't describe the dishes- and with items like La Jolla Chicken- well I don't know what that is, so i've been known to ask a waiter to describe several items since there's no description whatsoever. But they'll do it happily for you.

Also, I NEVER eat hamburgers. Not even my own, but I will happily chow down on of their cheeseburgers or buffalo burgers.... no "grody" bits.

Salad Gigante. OK, the salads here are big, no huge. For $7 or $8 you have a salad that needs to be split between two. The burgers are also fantastic, and the spinach lasagna is delightful. The italian cream cake makes a great dessert, as does the apple pie a la mode. Plus, if you split a salad, then you and your sweetheart can feel guiltless about splitting dessert. Plus, it's cute to split dessert.

Don't go expecting good service. I'm have been very dissappointed with the service at times and yesteday was the last straw. On a Sunday, I went to the restaurant around 2pm and the host would not sit me at the table I wanted. I was in a party of 2 and I wanted a booth (there were 2 open). The host explained that he would "not sit me at a 4 person table during peak hours." I decided that I would go somewhere that wanted my business. As I turned and walked out, the host said nothing.

I was truly shocked that they would let business just walk out the door. I guess quantity is more important than quality. I will not be returning.

Gnats! YUK!. Food was average; what REALLY disgusted me and discouraged me from ever coming here again were the dozens of gnats flying around our food at our table the whole time! There must be SOMETHING they can do to get rid of them, it's really gross! AND they were even in the bathroom!!! wth????

OUR WAITER, SEAN - WAS SIMPLY AWESOME!! - THE FOOD PRESENTATION FROM THE CHEF- WAS OUTSTANDING TO THE EYE. I ORDERED THE CHICKEN MED. SALAD (JUST GREAT), MY HUSBAND HAD THE GRILLED SALMON - AND REMEMBER, REGARDLESS OF WHAT YOU ORDER. ORDER A BOWL OF FRIES! - WE LIVE 2 HRS. FROM THIS TERRIFIC EATERY. HOWEVER, IT'S WORTH THE TRIP -- YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED - THE SERVICE IS GREAT, FOOD AWESOME - AND PRICE'S (WITH RELATION TO THE PORTIONS SERVED) WOW!! WHAT A DEAL.

WE WILL RETURN MANY TIMES.

I love this place!. I love this restaurant! The food is always delicious. I especially like the sandwiches (the club is excellent), and the burgers are good also. The portions are huge. The french fries are to die for. They have great ranch and honey mustard dressings. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful, and the restaurant has a very nice, homey, comfortable feel. One of the best places to eat in the Midtown area. I would highly recommend it!
