“The atmosphere is very cozy.”
“don't mind spending that much for a nice meal, but all we had was: an appetizer, soup, child's entree, child's desert, and a coke.”
“When i first went to the DTAQ i tought the food was a little expensive but honestly how often do you eat next to thousands of gallons of water with stingrays and huge fishes next to you, it is definetly worth it.”
“The desserts were GREAT and we thought the kids' buffet (kids choices, buffet lowered so kids could reach it) was a cute idea.”
“Downtown Aquarium of 410 Bagby here in Houston, Texas is a nice place, for entertainment and fun, for people of all ages.”
“Our children wanted to go back but only to enjoy the outdoor features.”
“$41 Lunch for baby and me, poor service”
“The food is horribly overpriced for the quality.”
“The shark tank on the train ride is pretty neat, but the sharks aren't as big as they lead you to think - and you only get about 4 minute to watch - then the train is on its way.”
Did not meet our expectations..
The exhibits are reached through narrow aisles which can get crowed with strollers ; the place seemed stifling.
Some displays were nicely done but some seemed very small for the number of fish in them. In the fish department, we didnt see anything truly exotic. There were a few displays housing small reptiles and some of birds which seemed out of place in an aquarium, along with the Bengal tigers.
After a short stroll through the aquarium, youll enter the Bengal tigers den. The tigers are indeed, very beautiful, but sadly, they are confined to a concrete den with a shallow swimming pool and palm trees painted on the walls. There are bleacher-style seats to rest or watch the tigers. That exhibit was was the end of the aquarium tour, right at about 15 minutes! The exit doors ushers visitors right into a crowded, souvenir shop; what a disappointment!
Sealife great, Seafood lame. The high prices at the upstairs seafood restaurant are to offset the cost of the aquariums and attractions, not the food. The frozen shrimp and heavily battered fish tasted like Long John Silvers. They don't take reservations, so we had to wait about 2 hours for a table. I recommend going for the attractions but dining elsewhere.
Great park. I'm not sure why the previous reviews were that negative. The place was very nice and we had lots of fun! We went on Monday and there was no wait. The price is reasonable. It's not cheap but it's a normal price. The restaurant is AWESOME! The food is OK but you mostly pay for the atmosphere. Where else can you eat lunch and observe fish and sharks swimming right in front of you?! The aquarium is not that big but it has a nice variety of fish. All in all, it's a great place to visit!
See the sights, but don't eat there!. The scenery is nice, some of the attractions are cute, and the place is decorated very well, but the dining experience bites. It's over proced, the waiters we had was very bad (always absent, it took 25 minutes to get tartar sauce) and for the money, the food is pretty mediocre. And if you gluten intolderant, there is nothing safe on the menu, and the staff have no idea what you're talking about, STAY AWAY!
User review by billj. We waited to long to be seated. It was an hour and ten minutes to be seated and our waiter didn't know too much about the facility like all the other waiters around us. He did not tell us about the specials or anything. He wasn't around half the time so other people had to help us when we needed something. The food is too expensive and not very good although the crab dip was good and the scenery was great! We loved the aquarium with all the fish but otherwise the service was not good! The attractions were good and seem very good for kids. It is a great place for Kids as far as entertainment. We don't recommend the food and we did not get good service! The Amusement we do recommend for children!
$41 Lunch for baby and me, poor service. We spent over $60 at the Aquarium today. Lunch alone was $41 (that's including the tip). I don't mind spending that much for a nice meal, but all we had was: an appetizer, soup, child's entree, child's desert, and a coke. The prices on the kid's menu are outrageous. My son had a great day, but he is only 2 and does not realize how much he could have gotten at Toys R Us if we had gone there instead. In addition, the service was slow and unfriendly, why is that? The service was better this morning at Burger King than it was at the Aquarium.
No All That!. Not impressed at all. Sure the aquarium is nice, any fish like that is nice, but WAY TOO EXPENSIVE for what it is. Exibit too small, too expensive, parking is too high, too slow. The restaurant is WAY TOO EXPENSIVE, overpriced and not professional at all. Where did they find the staff anyway? they need training, please. The place is too tourist like, and of course who else would it attract???? and no they were not tourist either....
Tillman, you can do better.... We went to the Aquarium for lunch on a Tuesday and not only was it overpriced ($14 for a salad & $6 to park) but the service was horrible! I did enjoy the ambiance of the restaurant and was quite impressed with my surroundings (the shark tank was incredible!), but that's about all I can say that was good. Our waiter was knowledgable, but he was painfully slow and not very eloquent. It took us 2 hours to eat 2 salads and water... go figure!! Sad to say but this is, by far, the worst of Tillman's properties.
Great Atmosphere. Sitting next to a huge aquarium full of sharks, stingrays and swordfish while you eat is not something you get to do everyday. The food was good. Not great, but good. The service was fine and the waiters are trained to answer any question you have about the fish in the tank. It has a 150,000 gallon tank in the middle of the resturaunt. A boat ride and a ferris wheel. and a larger aquarium to tour. Go during the week not on the weekend. And I promise it will be a memorable dining experience.
Food Woes. I have eaten at both the one in Kemah and Downtown and the food is not good. Something as simple and "fried fish tasted like fast food. It is obviously frozen because it taste like Ms. Pauls. I took my father who does not eat out much so he is easily impressed, he was not. They really need to improve the quality of the food. Being a native Texan we expect our fish to be on point.
