What People Are Saying About Kim Son Restaurant

In Short – Palatial, neo-Chinese-style restaurant and banquet hall with a dramatic goldfish pond and spacious interiors decorated with collectible Vietnamese art. An economically priced lunch menu offers healthful choices, wok specialties and Mama La's rice platters. Menu highlights include crisp-fried Vietnamese egg rolls wrapped in lettuce leaves; spring rolls; peppered crabs and vermicelli dishes. Bo nuong xa, or grilled Vietnamese fajitas, are the perfect entree choice, served with a bundle of just-picked mint, purple basil, lettuces, carrots, cucumbers, pineapple and sprouts.

Extremely Bad Service
by kimsonsux
Service seems to be worse every time we have gone there. Today a table of six ordered and only three got their meal. We tried to get their attention and complained several times. After the three finished eating did the waiter notice and say "oh your food is coming". We ask that the missing meals not be delivered, we were in a hurry, and we expected not to pay for them. Just before we got up they delivered the missing meals and said we had to pay for everything. After my first complaint to our waiter, we never saw him again. They kept rotating staff so we couldn’t get any consistent answers. Ordered of the lunch menu – that was a mistake. Food served is vastly inferior to ordering off the full menu. Rice with soy sauce on it is not fried rice. One person ordered the chicken and vegetables. She counted the chicken bits when it arrived. There were only seven.
I think they are getting so big they no longer care about service or quality of food.
Only go there if you don’t care how you are served or what you are served.
Horrible
by anna644
Terrible pseudo- Chinese/Vietnamese food. Salt and pepper squid consisted of only tail bits coated in heavy batter, i.e mostly batter. Food quality on par with local Chinese take-out. Vietnamese food is a joke - lacking in fresh herbs and flavor, and portion size tiny for the exhorbitant price charged. In short, avoid at all cost as this is a very poor value for quality restaurant with sub-par food.
Manager issue
by eatoutalot2010
We have been to this place many times and it seems to have gradually gone down hill on the taste of the food. We used to go to the one on Westheimer a few years back as well. However, I cannot stomach to go back after what I saw the last time! We were sitting at a table where we had a view o the kitchen as the staff went in & out and actually saw a manager drop an eggroll on THE GROUND and pick it up & put it back on the plate!!!! Now, I've worked in restaurants & this kind of thing probably happens more than we know but I have never done this nor have I witnessed this before! DISGUSTING! Will never return.
- Pros: Good appetizers
- Cons: Expensive, entrees not fresh..
Consistently good...

This is one of those places where you know you can't go wrong, so it's a great place to take friends who drive in from the suburbs that might be put off by going to one of the many "mom and pop" Vietnamese joints that are a little "rough around the edges". The atmosphere is great, the building is very nice, extensive menu, and the food and service have always been great every time I've been. Take your grandparents here with no fear of scaring them. ;)
- Pros: Fancy for a Vietnamese eatin' place.
- Cons: None, really!
