Where else could I see the Sound of Music on the big screen but the Angelika? An obscure kung fu movie will full action big screen? A Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Language film? All of these can usually be seen at the Angelika. Located in the Bayou place downtown, don't be intimidated by the parking. Just park downstairs and bring your ticket to the box office and they will stamp it so you don't get charged. The theaters are a bit smaller, but I love feeling like I'm a bit separate from the masses when I come here. Call me artsy fartsy, but I like seeing low budget films with substance, or films that require subtitles, and the best way to do it is in large screen format at the Angelika.
pitiful...boycott this place. Nobody sits in the small theaters 'accessible' seating if they don't hv to cause ur 3 feet from the screen....thus group companions must sacrifice a pleasant movie going experience if they choose to sit with their family member or companion with a mobility disabily. This has happened for the LAST TIME For me. BOYCOTT this shamefully humiliating business!
Great movies. I love this theatre. Matinees are cheap. Reimbursed for parking in the garage. All the best movies are shown there.
Good movies, but bad theater. They typically have a good selection of movies but the place has gone downhill over the years. The cafe closed and they have been saying a new tenant would be opening one back up. We also went recently and theater number eight was like an oven. I spoke to the manager who had to get a key to adjust the thermostat. She said she could not immediately find the key and that we could get a refund if we wanted. She also went on to say that the air conditioner was broken, it either was super cold or super hot. How can they knowingly sell tickets to this without telling you ahead of time? We left and went to get a refund. It took almost 30 minutes to get the refund processed. What a joke.
Parking is validated. In response to the previous review, if you present your parking ticket at the box office, they will stamp it so you don't have to pay.
Great place to see new indie films.. I go to this theater all the time. They always have the latest in art, indie, and documentary films; yet are still able to maintain an unpretentious attitude. It's a bit pricey because you have to pay for parking, but they offer valet parking at about the same cost as self-parking.
