You Can Never Go Home Again. Well, this place is back in business as of this month BUT as the old saying goes "you can never go home again". It's under new ownership but "Mom" is still there as a manager. Anyway, the first week of their opening they were very attentive. I went there twice. I went back again after 2 weeks and just as I suspected things have gone down hill. Actually the worst part about the experience is the waitress they have on staff in the early morning hours. She really doesn't know what she's doing and is not very attentive. Several customers of mine that come into my store have said they have experienced the same thing and they wait until after 8am for the "better staff" to show up. The have also, yet, to get their act together on how the food is to be prepared and at what portions. You don't know what you'll get from one visit to the next. Basically this place just needs to find the right employees and the owner to be more attentive to what his employees are or aren't doing.

We cant come back. Hello all I am the grand-daughter / daughter of the owners. I had to run the place until the end when we were faced with Ike. It is terrible and quite frustrating that we wont be coming back as we so miss all of our friends and family we have known to love . As with many others we never expected Ike to come like it did so we were in a sense "unprepared" and could not believe the devastation. I saw first hand of the damaged left behind and wanted to crawl in a corner and cry. The saying is so true I put my blood, sweat, and tears into this place and it was almost like my baby and now everything you worked so hard for is gone. I was never a morning person and always had to wake up at 4am (mostly running late :) just to get there and find myself for the longest waking up at 4 now thinking two things 1. oh now i get it up in time 2.I would be driving to work right now. This has taken its toll on our family and we will miss all of our new found family members terribly . If you would like to write a review and leave your email we would love to here from you! As for the comment left by a dissatisfied customer,Sorry we cant win them all.

Ike. We ate at The Diner last Sunday (9/7/08) I don't know if it is still there or not. It is sad to see such a beautiful city turned upside down....but Galveston will return!

Great breakfast and lunch available always. Good food, good friends, lots of coffee, get to know everyone from waitstaff to cooks to owners. Specials for lunch every day are terrific. Open menu lets you have lunch for breakfast or breakfast for lunch. Once you try it you will come back.

Gross not recommended unless you are starving. My husband and I stumbled on this diner when we were in the midst of moving to Galveston. We had high hopes for the place as there were a lot of cars around during the breakfast hours. Our hopes were all dashed when we went inside. The ambience is nasty, the wait staff are okay, the dishes need to be replaced as they are worn and cracked - too much washing and the porcelain is all scratched. The coffee was limp nasty sock water. Our eggs were runny when we had requested hard cooked. My husband got egg shells in his omlette (really this is inexcusable!). A very BAD experience and we will not go back.

Good country breakfast.. Although I was a little worried that this place would be trashy and gross, it was surprisingly good. I had a cheese omelette, hash browns, and home fries. All were good. My friend got the waffle in the shape of Texas. It was a pretty well priced and the waitresses were all friendly and charming.

"At Home" Ambience. Mom and the rest of "the girls" make us feel like we're sitting in a good friends kitchen. The food is really good too!

This understated and simply named cafe is an Island favorite, fueling fishing enthusiasts and other early-risers for years.. In Short
Big appetites are no problem at The Diner, one of Galveston's friendliest and most popular spots for breakfast and lunch. With whimsical decor that helps ease diners awake as much as the coffee does, this Island favorite serves up delightfully large portions of such home-cooked standbys as biscuits and gravy, chicken-fried steak, fried shrimp, burgers and waffles. A series of blue plate specials means there's always something new, which keeps the regulars happy.
