Avoid Gil's Barbecue. Gil's Barbecue is terrible. Avoid the place. It is a dump.

Brother Dave (Mr. Baseball) should buy Gil's Barbecue and turn it into Brother Dave's Sports Bar And Grille.

Barbecue. Avoid going to Gil's. The barbecue is not that good and the place looks like it is never cleaned. Gil Eng, the Owner, is never there. If you want very good barbecue, go to Big Daddy's around the corner on Westheimer going toward Hwy. 6.

BBQ Bust. We came here for a lunch recently and it was awful. Despite the fact that it's gotten really good reviews, this place is nothing like what other people have described. It was filthy and the food was dry and tasteless. I got the mac and cheese and cheesy potatoes as a side, and the cheese was like congealed Velveeta - totally disgusting.

The sausage was just about the only good meat out of the brisket, turkey, and ribs that I tried. The sauce was not memorable at all. In fact, the only thing memorable about it was that I didn't even bother to use it after tasting it. If you're thinking of coming here, don't bother - save your money and go to a better BBQ place.

Almost better than nothing.... A colleague and I decided to try Gil's Barbecue based on the 4 /1/2 star reviews on this site.

I'm not sure if the ownership has changed or what but this place was terrible. The brisket was dry and not smoky, the sausage tasted like a low-quality, store-bought brand and the sauce was watered-down Bullseye barbecue sauce... no kidding.

A better alternative to Gil's would be Houston Barbecue located further North on Eldridge. If you had to walk there, I would recommend doing that rather than eating as Gil's... thumb a ride, take a bus, stow away on the undercarriage of a Northbound vehicle, anything... it's worth it-- trust me.

If you take any enjoyment whatsoever out of eating, I don't recommend Gil's. I feel like I've wasted an entire lunch hour and the contents of my stomach is now about to make a hasty retreat through my colon. Probably the best thing anyways.

An exceptional Houston BBQ restaurant. Gil's is definitely an unpretentious place, and while it doesn't look like much from the outside, it's definitely some of the best BBQ I've had in quite a while. Gil was friendly and quite attentive as he prepared our plates. The food was definitely at a value price. My husband and I both received huge portions of meat with our dinner plates. The BBQ was incredible. It managed to have enough of a "kick" to it without the spices being overwhelming. There was just enough smokiness to it to be just right, and there was a hint of sweetness without it becoming cloyingly sweet. The meat was perfectly cooked. Between my husband and I, we had sausage, beef, ribs, and pork. The ribs were at that just right stage where you can easily pull the bone from the meat. There was a great smoke flavor to everything. Throughout the meal, Gil was attentive and courteous.

We stumbled on this find through a gift certificate, and we'll certainly be back.

Excellent All-Around. I have only been there twice when I have to go to Eldridge Parkway for company events, but both times I've been there, the food and the service has been excellent! The chopped beef sandwiches are probably the best I've tasted and they do little things like give me free sauce on the side. They have a bbq buffet that includes everything they offer, meat, sides, even dessert and a drink for just under $15 bucks and it's the best. Check this place out. It's the best undiscovered barbecue place in Houston!

One of the best kept secret BarBQue in Houston. We love their chopped beef baked potatoe! It's huge. It's topped with loads of chopped beef that's well flavored and no fat unlike other BBQ places. You get to customize or put the toppings yourself so you can put extra cheese! Sauce has a kick to it. Great prices, owner is very nice. Family oriented with play area for kids, tv on sports.

Good food, Good price. Period.. For good downhome real food, you just can't beat Gil's BBQ at the corner of Westheimer and Gestner.

Nothing fancy here: no candlelight, fresh cut flowers or even table cloth. What you get are juicy brisket, yummy smoked turkey, roast-chicken, meaty ribs and delicious sausages. The side dishes are equally tempting. The food is freshly prepared all day in the huge oven in the back, and the portions are more than adequate. Even their famous BBQ sauce is prepared on site as needed to maintain freshness. Finger-licking is a common sight here.

Out-of-this-world delicious!. Gil's serves huge portions of tender, juicy meats - beef, ribs, turkey, sausage, chicken and pork, with a barbecue sauce that is out-of-this-world delicious. There is a wide selection of truly sumptuous sides, including creamy cole slaw, tasty baked beans, moist and flavorful dirty rice, and, much more. The friendly ambiance, mixed with the latest in sports casting makes this the best barbecue restaurant in Houston.
