“Good people in both establishments and one of the few parking lots where you won't get towed in Rice Village.”
“The drinks are great (full bar, lots of wines by the glass), the service is good, and the appetizers are fantastic.”
“All the food is good but my personal favorite is the White Pizza.”
“The food is really good, and they serve a limited menu until late, good for those of us late night snackers.”
“Cozy atmosphere, interesting, classy people, smooth service and convenient location.”
One of my favorite happy hour spots. I've tried many other places but I still love coming to the Lounge at Benjy's for happy hour (4-7 weekdays). The drinks are always good (i love their blood orange margeritas and their mojitos), and the food specials are delish. I think I've tried everything on the menu but the standouts are the dumplings, the pizza, and the tofu. They have other dishes that rotate (they used to have sliders and these great salmon tacos but they don't anymore) and everything's pretty good, so be adventurous and try whatever you're in the mood for. The place usually gets packed between 6-7pm happy hour time, so if you want a good spot I suggest coming early around 5pm. The deck overlooking the parking lot is a great way to hang out and enjoy the evening air if you can snag one of the high-in-demand tables, and even if I can't get a seat when I initially get there, eventually someone will get up and leave me a spot if I stay long enough. This is one of those places you can drop by for a quick bite or stay as long as you wish. I actually like it in the twilight around 9-10pm, when the place starts to wind down, you can hang, chill and have a good time relaxing with friends.
I've had a really fun time at the happy hour all 3 times I've been. I guess it's my new favorite spot in the village. The drinks are great and the food is even better. It does get a little over crowded, but that's just to be expected at a place as upscale as this.
Packed on Early Friday Nights.
It's been years since I have been here. I was surprised to see the lounge packed at 6:30 PM with the usual suspects--young doctors in scrubs, glammed out 30-somethings, and the conservative West U types.
My Grey Goose martini was perfect as it should be for $10. We had VIP service.
I wish Benjy would expand the place, there's no room to sit.
The White Pizza is a must try!. The perfect place to start or end an evening in Rice Village. All the food is good but my personal favorite is the White Pizza. Good food, good ambiance.
sorry place. Binjy's over in Rice Village is nice and good. First of all they don't serve Heniken, wat the hell going on. Heniken is a upscale beer, my flavorite beer, ANTHONY BOUDAIN flavorite beer. But wat got to me the most was that they serve a BOWL OF SOUP WITH RIBEYE, and we order it. In vietnamese, this is call PHO and cost 3 to 5 buck at almost every vietnamese restaurant. Well Benjy thought they was so smart to copy something so simply and sell it for 22 buck and made it taste worse. I hope they realize that some American and all asian eat pho. Did Benjy think they invented that and think their customer is stupid. Get rid of the dumb popcorn. Alot of money went to this place, and I think alot of unique ideas should too. But hey how can u stay away when u see all the nice cars and ppl. Lifestyle of the rich and not so famous. hahhahaha
Best White Pizza in Houston!. I LOVE Benjy's for the food, music and the fact that it's next door to the Kelvin Arm's! I always take out of town visitors to the Village for this little Oasis which is one of the few places you can actually walk in Houston without becoming a hood ornament! Good people in both establishments and one of the few parking lots where you won't get towed in Rice Village. Interesting mix of people from all over and you never know who you might run into.
Good drinks. I went during happy hour. It wasn't that crowded and the service was great. Ordered the pizza on the appetizers menu. I don't think I will ever order it again. Think crispy cardboard box with a lot of pizza sauce. I think the drinks helped me forget the quality of the pizza for the moment. Don't expect GREAT crabcakes. They are okay, nothing spectacular. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant. It's not a place to put on your must-do list for happy hour.
quaint chill lounge in rice village. it's probably one of the few quaint spots in the rice village area where you can just lounge and chill without the loud music or loud crowds. the location is not bad: sitting on top of kelvin arms (if you want a beer run) and next to benjy's (if you get hungry). the side door entrance immediately creates a hole-in-the-wall feel without it actually being hole-in-the-wall; it's like discovering a secret door to a passageway and the end result is a pleasant surprise. the space is small and trendy, cozy enough for 2 or for a small group of friends...but it does get crowded and it'll be hard to find a nice cozy niche to relax. *
It's okay.... I went for the first time on Friday and don't have the desire to go back. There was a good mix of people if you like snobs. We shared our table with a few others and they weren't grateful at all, more like they expected it. I didn't care much for the music which was a steady beat of ??? They were playing better music in the restaurant. It was a little crowded so I will give the waitress some slack, but service was awful. After our first round of drinks, we ordered food and never got it, nor our second round, So we left and went elsewhere. The one thing I couldn't believe was how expensive the drinks were. If I would have gotten my second martini, I would have been a few dollars short from being able to buy a whole bottle or vodka at the store. I think I'll stay home next time.
Unreasonable Staff. Cute place, nice atmosphere and tasty food, but they take their "no seating incomplete parties" to an unreasonable extreme. The last time I was here meeting friends for an early dinner on a Tuesday night (read the restaurant was empty save for 2 tables) and a wreck happened on 59 that made 2 of our party of 10 late. They held our table, but would not seat us and were very rude about it. Come on, the place was empty! It was so ridiculous that I won't go back there again.
