yellowtail appetizer is INCREDIBLE. I've never really liked yellowtail very much. Recently I have changed my mind. Azuma has a yellowtail appetizer that is incredible. Sliced super thin and marinated in a thai chili sauce, it's one of my favorite dishes now. Definitely worth a try!
Rude Staff and uninterested Manager!.
I have visited this restuarant dozens of times before and have always enjoyed the food and the friendly chefs at the sushi bar,,,,,but the last few occassions I have found the "greeters" to be somewhat rude.
Last night I went in for dinner and was greeted by a girl at the door who was incredibly rude, as I was instructed to wait by the door until a spot was cleaned at the sushi bar,,,,After waiting and watching nothing being done to clear two spots at the bar I asked if anything was going to be done when I was pretty much "put in my place" by the rude girl.
When I eventually went to my seat I tried to inform the manager of what had happened but he couldnt be less interested in hearing about my poor experience! He was clueless how to act or repond or what to say when I raised my concerns.....
In the end I left without even ordering,,,,
Azuma has a new location, and they've freshened up the menu.
Ive only been twice, soo i cant give it five stars yet. But we ordered the live Lobster sashimi , I thought lobster had to come out cooked and dripping in butter. But how I've been proven wrong . It almost melts once it hits your tongue. and if your not faint at heart, the sushi chef shows his skills by delivering a beautiful display over the body of what is a still alive , lobster. cant ask for anything fresher than that. they also will do my Fav ' which is not on the menu....yet. .Foie Gr as. each time has been a different arrangement , scallop & foie gr as, toro & foie gr as, kobe & foie gr as..you get the picture..YUM . Also don't be shy to order from the kitchen menu... there is soo much more to Japanese cuisine than roll's and sashimi..........soo much MORE. although I would never turn down a good piece of sushi, any day. over all had a very good experience, hostesses friendly, with a warm greeting. server was attentive with out being overbearing ......I hate that !! and was left to feel welcome by all . prices ...... Good, i believe for the quality served, fish has been extremely fresh both times, coming from Hawaii, I'm pretty certain I know fresh fish.
Very Glad my friend turned me on to this Sugarland location.
HWY 6 and 59......to the right of Whole Foods.
Enjoy good Friends, Eat Great food
Aloha
RUDE STAFF WAITRESSES!.
We were only trying to have a nice fun dinner on a Saturday night. The waitress rushed us and was very rude! One could tell she really doesnt want to be there! We ordered 2 drinks: one was water and one was bottled beer and she even screwed that up!
After our meal, she tokenly asked "do you want anything else?" and NOT EVEN TWO SECONDS passed after that and she followed it up by "OK I WILL GET YOUR CHECK THEN"- even if we did not ask for it....not even asking us if we wanted dessert!
Reading SteveEater's review, I wish I had checked the other reviews before we went there!
Too bad... we usually go for sushi once a week and we are NEVER going back to this place. There are tons of sushi places even just up the street where the sushi is just as good (if not better) but the service is a lot better.
Somebody should teach the waitresses there that good food alone will not make a restaurant succeed and last long especially in this economy.
We left a hefty tip for the sushi chefs. As for the waitress.....just what we thought was commensurate of her service.
Rude service and slightly overpriced.
I've never written a restaurant review, and I came here to create an account and review this one only because of my poor experience tonight.
We went to dinner with some friends, and to be honest if they were not with us I would have spoken with the manager about our server. The restaurant wasn't terribly busy, yet she rushed us through our meal, and didn't come back at all after dropping off the check (More coffee? Another drink?) I guess she had her gratuity (which she already added to the check) and was finished with us. The company we were with are very polite people, so I didn't want to embarrass them by making a scene.
The food portions were quite small and quite costly for what you get. My wife, my son, and I all left hungry even after sharing 4 appetizers among 6 people and each person had an entree.
This was the first, and last time we'll ever go to Azuma. For the money we spent, we can get better food elsewhere, and we could be treated better at a McDonalds.
Nice Restaurant. I just recently visited the Azuma in the Rice village area and left more than satisfied. It was a Friday night and there was a pretty long wait. We went to the bar and got drinks and the bartenders were very friendly and prompt. It took us about 25 min. to get seated when we were quoted 15min, but when we got to our table it got much better. The server was very welcoming she took very great care of us and even recommended the Yellowtail Chili as our appetizer. The rest of the meal as well as our experience was awesome. I'll definately be coming back. Parking however was absoluetly terrible
Great place!. i've been to this azuma and downtown azuma plenty of times. each time i left satisfied. it is not so expensive and the service is always great. servers are friendly and food comes out fast especially when you hungry. just when i thought i found a great japanese-american place to eat when i saw an insect./r**ch/they wont let me submit it if i write the word. on their wall. if i saw one that means there are millions of them in the building. so that was the only thing that dissapointed me. other than that very nive place.
