Metric takes pride in its work
by MetricMotorcycles
Metric takes pride in its work and has a well-deserved reputation of the most qualified shop capable of handling even the most sophisticated work like creating custom dyno maps and tuning fuel injection, machining heads and bluprinting and building engines. But even when some may consider oil and tire changes as trivial, Metric treats them with utmost attention because the rider's safety depends on a job well done.
Flyinglennon (FL) is conveniently telling a very one-sided story. He arrived at the shop with his (very lovely) wife, a first-time rider, for a tire change. FL brought his own tire and insisted on having it mounted; Metric made an exception for FL, who did not buy a tire there, as it is not Metric's practice to mount tires ordered somewhere else - as you will see, for a good reason. FL's tire, although the correct size for the rim, did not clear the fender once mounted, something that is not obvious when mounting on a rim off the bike but easily avoidable had Metric been the one to order it.
FL was offered a choice of affordable tires to purchase, with remounting fee waived - a cheap Chinese brand and a Dunlop, with price difference of about $20 betwen the two. When FL asked "so, what's the REAL difference between the cheap and the 'expensive' tire" (hoping to hear 'none'), the response was, you are buying a tire for your WIFE's bike, the cheap ones are cheap for a reason, at which point FL demanded the original tire be put on.
Metric did not order the wrong tire, FL brought it and requested it be put on the bike - and even FL agreed it was fair that it was not be done for free. FL made a bad decision - had he let Metric get the right tire and returned the wrong one, it would have cost him only $5 more total than what he paid to have the wrong one put on and then off. FL can't blame anyone for that but himself.
Bottom line - please do your own research on Metric and come visit in person first, and you will find there are none better.
- Pros: In-house dyno, head machining, fuel management and suspension know-how
- Cons: Owner is not a kiss-@ss
