Authentic Vietnamese "Banh Mi" Sandwiches. Heavy foot traffic at this Hong Kong Mall location means that the food is always fresh here. With a decidedly more "vietnamese" flavor than some of the other Vietnamese sandwich places, Alpha bakery is a no nonsense little shop that churns out "banh mi" (vietnamese sandwiches) like McDonald's churns out burgers. For $2.50, you can get your choice of specialty cold cut ("dac biet"), bbq pork ("thit nuong"), meatball ("xiu mai") and many other choices filled with pickled carrots, cilantro, jalapeno, pate, mayo, and a sprinkling of Maggi sauce. They also offer pre-made Vietnamese food to-go item like red sweet rice, "pate chaud" (puff pastry filled with pork), rice cakes, and Vietnamese dessert pudding ("che"). There are other banh mi shops in the mall, but this one is the best, drawing regular crowds and lines on the weekends.
