Blue Fish House - Voted "Best Sushi" in Houston on Citysearch- Great flavors & creative sushi! Many believe sushi is raw but doesn't have to contain fish at all. Sushi is made with sweet, sticky rice, made with a sweet vinegar and rice combination, lined with seaweed or kelp, called nori with ingredients placed in the center and the rice and seaweed are wrapped around the ingredients into a cylindrical roll. Some possible ingredients for a sushi include fish (cooked, steamed, raw or cured), seafood, and both raw and steamed vegetables. If you are new to Sushi, start off with the "California Roll" with rice, nori, cucumber, avocado, and crab meat. See the complete Blue Fish House menu for the roll variations we offer. I was in awhile back. I got seated, service was very prompt at times. It was not a fully busy restaurant and I had to wait for my food about 45 minutes. I did notice that there was a group of 3 or 4 people come in to sit at the bar and started talking to the chef in their language. They got there food the immediately as they sat down. I asked my waitress why the food was taking so long and why the people at the bar got it before anyone else in the restaurant. She simply told me "because they are thai". Upset as I became she very simple tried to explain that she had no control over th
Very good fish tacos. I am a big seafood fan and I always have loved authentic fish tacos. I haven't had the chance to try out other dishes of theirs yet but as soon as I get back and I will definitely let you know about them.
Just Mediocre. I cannot comprehend the positive reviews about this sushi restaurant in Houston. The sushi was mediocre. The service was horrendous. I had booked a table for 10 and they never bothered to seat anyone, even the people that got there early. I had to go over and ask them to seat the group. They ran out of menus for the table. The staff were like zombies. It was almost like we were invisible. We had to keep going over to get their attention. We got our food at all different times, even though we ordered together. When the bill came, it was all wrong. We were even followed out to our car because the waitress thought we didn't pay enough. We had to take my cell phone calculator to show her she made a mistake. She was very apologetic.
Delicious sushi!. When looking for a nice place to eat sushi, we keep coming back here for more... I recently took my brother here and we had our old standby, the Volcano roll - a delightfully unhealthy yet delicious roll of tempura and creamy cheesiness... I also tried the hot lava soup... a yummy spicy coconutty udon curry of goodness that warmed up my belly. Yum.
great atmosphere.

The atmosphere in this restaurant would be perfect for a date. It's dimly lit with a with a water fountain, icecycle lights and lots of asian art. This is now my favorite sushi bar, but I haven't been to many. The sushi ranged from about 3-5$ for 2 pieces. The sushi is sliced very thick though. The regular meals are bout 11$ or so. The service was excellent and I never had a drink below 50%. I was refreshed 2 times in a meal where I didn't drink much.
I can't really complain, but if I did I would say their sushi is definitely upper class, but not the best upper class I've had before.
One of the best. This sushi spot is very memorable. The menu is full of creative choices and the atsmosphere is really laid back and modest. But don't let the little house fool you...it is home to some of the best sushi in Houston.
horrible service.
we have been going to blue fish for awhile as they do have a good variety of sushi available. their appetizers are bland esp the edamame which is not always prepared well. due to the options available and we are not so picky about service we overlooked the errors made to our order and poor service.
This last time we went and the staff was horrible. We had called earlier to make a reservation for our party. I was informed they don't normally take reservations but they can put our name down, as they are a small venue and on the weekends you can expect to wait which we don't mind as that can be anyplace on the wknd.
We arrived on time and as expected were informed we would have to wait. Several other parties had walked in after us and were seated before us, after 45 minutes of waiting and noting a large empty table that had been vacant for about 30 minutes we asked how much longer the wait would be. There on their list was on our name with 7 parties after us 4 of which had been seated with similar size parties. The staff at this point was extremely rude and unhelpful when we questioned the wait as we had been patiently standing on the side.
Rather then going into all the specifics i would just like to say an error was made on the restaurant's part, but they did nothing to improve the situation. Rather they were quite argumentative. Even the manager who seemed pretty reasonable initially was useless. After wasting an hour of our time we left went down the street and had wonderful sushi, much more fresh than the sushi at bluefish.
In a sense blue fish's horrendous staff and service was a blessing in disguise. If you are fine with average sushi, which admittedly we were, and terrible service blue fish sushi is fine. Blue Fish Sushi is just not equipped or capable of handling a normal busy weekend night and on the weekdays it's just an average local sushi joint.
Great place; Eat here regularly. My favorite roll here is the mango and crab roll, although my fiance enjoys many of their sashimi offerings. Decor is nice, service is decent, and prices are moderate.
Are you Kidding Me?. I don't get the accolades by others. Tried it based on those reviews. Mediocre sushi, service, and their horrid "interpretation" of other Asian dishes (I don't find the "catchy" names clever). I guess this is a popular place for people who don't know quality sushi when they eat it.
