Editorial Review for Blue Fish House – by Eric Gerber
The Scene
While "fish house" conjures up an old-school establishment ladling out bowls of chowder and platters of cod, this place is a different kettle of fish. Sushi and other Pan-Asian delicacies prevail at this humbly hip Japanese eatery. Younger scenesters and boomers both come for the serene setting (muted lighting and Zen-like decor), perky waitstaff and the clever, pun-laden menu.
The Food
Lurking behind jocular names like Dumb and Dumpling, Some Young Guy and Thai Me Up is some seriously appetizing food. Sushi and sashimi enthusiasts enjoy the reliable array of seafood treats, including such novelties as sushi pizza and crispy baby octopus. Blue House also shines with other options, like a wonderfully piquant chili-and-lime beef salad, a radioactively spicy shrimp soup, and for the vegetarian, a tofu steak slathered with a wasabi-mayo sauce. Finish off with a cooling dish of red-bean ice cream.

This is by far one of the better Japanese restaurants in town. After reading many of the other reviews on some of the other Japanese restaurants people are to easily fooled by the word "japanese restaurant". They rate them high not knowing the difference of bad and then good. Blue Fish House has better food than most of the others in town. The sushi & sashimi are very fresh and has a good flavor with good consistency. The rolls are very creative, huge & tasty. Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food. All in all though, well worth trying and enjoying!
Pros: good food & service
Cons: parking

This restaurant serves low quality food. The owners are not Japanese, so don't expect good sushi. The miso soup was too salty, without scallions, and with very few tofu and seaweed pieces, and a bad fishy aftertaste. The shumai (shrimp dumplings) are bland with low quality frozen shrimp, the dough is too thick, and the dipping sauce is too vinegary and overpowering. The veggie dumplings are even worse-- thick dough wrapped around mostly cream cheese with a few veggies. Who ever heard of a dumpling stuffed with cream cheese? The sushi fish is not very fresh, dry on the edges, and low quality. They do not have anything special sushi fish, just salmon, tuna, etc (no fatty tuna or marlin or any other delicacy). The sushi fish was so terrible, you can get better sushi for less at Whole Foods. The california roll is also terrible, and not at all what is usually is. There is hardly any avocado in it, and the crabmeat is actually mostly cream cheese with a few chunks of crabmeat so it looks like a tuna salad. The menu did not mention cream cheese in the CA roll! This place gets 2 stars instead of 1 just because the food is edible and won't make you ill you, but it's so tasteless that I can't recommend it and I won't be going back.
Cons: terrible sushi
