“This is a very comfortable place to hang out, and it has free wifi, so if you've got to meet someone for a bit and do a demo or surf the web, you can”
“Great Draft beer selection, great drinks at a resonable price.”
“The burgers are nice and thick and the Pablano soup is a religious experience.”
“Good atmosphere, nice patio, decent food (some real hits, though, like their pizzas), and a great selection of beers.”
“The Stag is a great place to eat, meet people and relax.”
“All it took was one visit, and everybody knows my name, and they know what I drink, and my beer is cold and waiting for me when I come back.”
“If you go up during the day for lunch or on the weekend for a ball game - there's nice light on the east side and big tv's for whatever you want to watch (the staff is pretty cool about the channel changing thing).”
“The have good beer specials, but I'm not sure I could say it's worth the service I've received.”
“Love the waitresses, but the servie was slow because the bar was really crowded.”
What happened to this place?. Went a few weeks ago and held off on the review to regroup. Used to love it here for good pub food and intelligent service. No more, sorry to say. Reminds me of bennigan's now (may it RIP)... with less class and worse food. What a loss.
Worst Bartender EVER. I too had a horrible first experience here with the rudist bartender I've ever had. The date that brought me here, as I wanted to go to a pub after dinner, was extremely embarrased for choosing this place. I will not go back and have definitely spread the word to my friends to go elsewhere.
Effective meeting spot.
I held a meeting at Stag's Head in their meeting room and though it was not our traditional venue, it went well. There is a wide variety of foods, so everyone had something they liked, from pizza to salads to traditional English breakfast or a burger.
I did not give it the last star because the wait staff seemed to like interrupting our meeting and because the room was quite dark. We also had to bring a sheet to use as a projector screen, but that's not a problem- it is a pub after all.
horrible service. The staff for the most part are great, some of the best bartenders in the city. But I will no longer drink here because of the rudest bartender i have ever encountered. A few months ago I was there late on a Friday night. I ordered a round from this bartender, who told me that he "doesn't make those" and walked off. The other bartenders quickly came over and apologized, and made the drinks for me. One of the bartenders informed me that this was their manager! I hadn't been in since until last weekend, when I stopped by for a nightcap on Friday. Service was exceptional, until the same bartender/manager came out on the patio with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other, and took our drinks away. I informed him that it wasn't even 2 o'clock yet, and I had just bought that drink at last call just a few minutes before. He mumbled something about "bar-time", took our drinks away and told us that "the bar's closed, go home". I am still appalled at the way he spoke to us, not to mention the cigarette smoke he blew in my face. That will be the last time I spend money in that bar, and judging by how many people were in there on a Friday night (six), it seems their reputation is getting around.
Great Staff ....... I'm sorry but I have found my experience at the Stags to be great ... as for the waitstaff / bartenders they are outstanding ... if your looking for the "Hooter girl experience" you will not find it at the Stags ... these ladies have class and culture ... I understand this can be misinterperted as rude .... but believe me they are not rude. Great ambiance.
Wifi and Beer - nice mix!. Good atmosphere, nice patio, decent food (some real hits, though, like their pizzas), and a great selection of beers. This is a very comfortable place to hang out, and it has free wifi, so if you've got to meet someone for a bit and do a demo or surf the web, you can ... before you imbibe in the suds.
Filthy.
I've been coming here every year for our Christmas party and always have fun because of the group. Service is a roll of the dice like the reviews say, some have been lucky and some have been otherwise.
But in the 4 or 5 years I've been going there the Men's Bathroom has never been cleaned. They have installed what can only be described as black light bulbs instead of cleaning the place. I can only imagine what the kitchen must look like.
Not only is it bad management and ownership to cut this kind of expense (Sanitation).
It's down right dangerous.
My Once a Month Eatery.
I was actually on here looking to make a comment about Azuma since one was supposed to open near me in the Upper West End Area and I saw a review that I totally disagreed with. This place has about the best food in a 6 block radius of its location and I would say that a large part of it is how well I get treated by the management and wait staff when I go in for lunch or dinner. I actually brought my boss in to eat when I came in from New York and while I was taking a work call in the parking lot he walked in and got seated before me. I found him after the call was done and he told me how weird it was that he was getting treated like a regular but I told him that it was symptomatic of how you get treated in the south but to be honest, since the owner/management are European I guess they're just nice people.
I highly recommend the fajita nachos, chicken club salad, Scotch egg or any of the specials or soups of the day. If you go up during the day for lunch or on the weekend for a ball game - there's nice light on the east side and big tv's for whatever you want to watch (the staff is pretty cool about the channel changing thing). If you come at night, the left or west side of the bar is kind of dark and romantic and a cool place to sit for a while with a first date or even someone you've been intimate with for a while. Leave the corner by the dartboard for the regulars, though. That's my territory!
Unprofessional service!. I am sorry that I have to say this but I have noticed very unprofessional service at The Stag's Head. Me and my husband visited one time and witnessed a great amount of conflict between the manager and the employee. I mean, if I am sitting at the bar, paying for my drink etc. I don't think that it is appropriate to see the work related drama. We are NEVER going back. We wanted to have a nice night out and instead ended up feeling bad for the waiters that got yelled it. Very very unprofessional!
Service with attitude.
I seem to keep picking holes in the European drinking holes in my Citysearch reviews. This place is fast becoming a hole due to the terrible service from the staff. I will admit that the bar is not conducive to serving as it has so many blind spots that patrons are often ignored resulting in customers being annoyed before they start their first sip further resulting in initial tense negotiations for drinks. The food is okay, but again is not English, even though they have the obligatory Fish & Chips on the menu. The interior is bland and needs updating and the rest rooms have been noticed to be used for other purposes not involving the sale of alcohol. It is really disappointing that a place which is supposed to be the alternative pub to the Richmond Arms has fallen into such a poor state. The reviews below only strengthen the argument. I didn't enjoy writing this review, but hopefully the owners will take notice and make immediate changes to stop the downward spiral before a permanent hole is created.
