“frequent this and the I-10/Taylor location, and almost always get three crispy corn tacos with only four ingredients each: steak, habañero sauce, jalapeños, and guacamole.”
“And once your done you can go next door to Amy's for some wonderful ice cream - that's if you have room!”
“Freebirds definitely has the world's best burritos, bar none.”
“Beyond weird employee situations, this is/was one of the most welcome texmex comfort food spots in Houston.”
“It's full of flavor, there are many selections, and the store's clean.”
“If you know good food when you taste it, this is the place for you.”
“Very interesting staff but they are always super nice and quick!”
“The price is just so right (lunch usually under $8 for me) and their burrito sizes are great and scale to what meals I accidentally skipped earlier in the day ( life is busy, it happens).”
“Initial confusion about whether Freebirds served free-range chicken combined with the distinctly non-country atmosphere led the Bird to a slow start.”

Save time and place your order online, noting when you want to pick it up, at this busy location of the burrito chain.
When I want to get stuffed for nothing, this is where I go. I leave fat and happy.
Freebirds.
Freebirds SUCK if u ask me! They give the smallest portion possible and compared to Bullritos-well there really isn't any comparison.
For amount of food/for the buck- Bullritos ROCKS!!!
Best Burrito, Hands Down.
This is about the best you can get when it comes to burritos. There are things you have to consider when creating your burrito at these types of places. LESS IS MORE. I also used to work here. A lot of people mess up their burrito by trying to put too much of what they like on it. You might like it all, but it may not all taste good together. A lot of people complain when they put lettuce on their burritos, lettuce and head dont go together so well, so I also dont recommend wrapping lettuce into your hot burrito.
You also have to know your meats. Different meats taste different with different toppings. I like all the meats here, so when I get a burrito here, my toppings depend on the kind of meat that I choose.
The dark meat chicken is awesome with lime juice, bad ass bbq sauce, and death sauce.
The steak tastes awesome. The carnitas is good with sour cream. Their rice and beans are also tasty. I love this place.
Stinky Mediocure Food.
I have been there twice. Both times because I was dragged by a friend.
The first time the place smelled so bad of rotten garbage we had to move twice just to fine a spot both inside or outside that we could stomach eating at the same time as the stench.
After having to bath in humid air of rotten trash I said I would never go back again. But, one of my friends said it is not like that and to give it another chance, so I did.
The smell was not as bad the second time, but it was still there. The staff is friendly, but my burrito was dry and not very flavorful.
Overall why go someplace that I really do not like the food and the air smells.
My guilty pleasure. Love it! It gets a little bust around lunchtime, but it's worth the wait. The BBQ sauce is amazing and the queso is worth the upgrade.
Great steak fajita meat at a great price.
Freebirds would make a KILLING if it had locations near UH or Rice.
I frequent this and the I-10/Taylor location, and almost always get three crispy corn tacos with only four ingredients each: steak, habañero sauce, jalapeños, and guacamole. Been there enough so that the staff already knows what to do when I walk up. LOL
At the time of this writing, those tacos only run me $4.77, plus $1.50 for a drink. Compare that to Chipotle for the same tacos, where it's pushing $20 for food and drinks for two people, and the meat isn't as well-seasoned.
I've also had their steak salads, steak bird bowls, and steak burritos, and enjoyed them all thoroughly. You might say I like steak, and Freebirds doesn't disappoint. Think I'll go get some now!
Great food, creepy and disrespectful employee (Ashley??) -- place will be great again when she's gone.
This review is going to start out crappy, but end delicious. Bear with me now...
I've been a longtime Freebirds junkie (at several locations in Tejas), but will most likely never return to the Houston Freebirds Shepherd location due to a specific employee.
Her name is Ashley (last name, no clue) and she has been repeatedly brash and inappropriate in hitting on my guy when we've been there. Like, to the extent where we simply do not eat there anymore. It's uncomfortable and just disgusting (and kind of sad?? hello?? you're at work?? we're here to eat burritos?? he's taken??).
A crappy way to begin a review for a place I love to eat at, but seriously -- ladies, I would advise you and your man just avoiding this girl. She's obviously a little off. Hopefully she'll be headed out soon and the Freebirds world will be well again. Icky.
Now for positive things - I love the burritos at Freebirds. LOVE LOVE LOVE. Everything is incredibly fresh, their choice of tortillas is always nice and their salsa/hot sauce is always just right.
The price is just so right (lunch usually under $8 for me) and their burrito sizes are great and scale to what meals I accidentally skipped earlier in the day ( life is busy, it happens). My daughter loves their kiddo meals and even with her unholy appetite walks away satisfied.
Beyond weird employee situations, this is/was one of the most welcome texmex comfort food spots in Houston. The fact that it is next door to Amy's Ice Cream just makes it that much more perfect :)
man burrito.
when i am hung over and need a burrito i go to freebirds. Then I feel like a grizley bear for a couple of hours, but mmmmmm really good burritos.
Also I call in burritos and pick them up. That kicks but when there is a huge line and you can walk around it.
Not bad, but still a Chipotle fan.. Overall, Freebirds isn't too bad. They're higher priced than their rival, Chipotle, which is a con, but they DO have free flowing cilantro, which is always a plus for me. They also charge for sour cream, which is kind of ridiculous. Their rice is a little bland, but, like I said, it's not bad. It's about a 9.50+ meal for a burrito of comparable size (like from Chipotle) and a soda. The major plus? Amy's Ice Cream is right next door. Give it a shot. My friends who prefer Freebirds say it's the rice. I don't see it, but maybe you will.
