Witty and inventive, this troupe has become a mainstay of the local dance scene.. Who's That Girl?


Suchu Dance is primarily the product of Jennifer Wood's vision and talent, not to mention personality. Wood is the company's director, choreographer, occasional lead performer, and, sometimes, the composer of its musical score. Wood is trained in modern dance, and grew up with baton twirling and drill team routines. A little bit of each has made its way into her work.



What's That Style?


Wood's dance pieces have been described as theatrical, deadpan, and devious. When pushed, she will admit to being influenced by New Yorker Doug Varone, and his release technique of loose upper and lower bodies.



The Long and Short of It


Though known originally for shorter entertainments, Wood made her biggest splash with "8 Flying Dogs," an evening length piece that opened the 1999 Dance Festival at the Jewish Community Center.
