Get past the blaring Latino jukebox, and tap into the collection of Tex-Mex..
The Scene
The Spring Branch strip-center location may seem unappealing, but bear in mind, this Hispanic neighborhood is home to authentic taquerias and carnicerias galore. At this spacious, family-operated cafe, peppy with Mexican marionettes and colorful ceramics, you'll witness neighbors and families with big appetites digging into platters just as grande.
The Food
The beef fajitas glow with marinated, charred flavor and arrive sizzling with crisp peppers and onions. Warm, tissue-soft white corn tortillas are also a bonus. Non-goopy, meticulously rolled enchiladas are light but savory, stuffed with roasted chicken or spinach and napped with kicky tomatilla or rojo sauce. Spanish rice gets fresh with corn, peas and carrots, and refried beans are creamy good. We've had better chicken soup and flautas, but a frosty cerveza makes it all go down easy.
