Editorial Review for Urban Retreat Day Spa & Salon – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
This salon and spa strikes an engaging balance between luxurious sophistication and general accessibility. Urban Retreat makes a real effort to wrap the client in comfort, and the more extended treatments include spa food from a small but impressive menu prepared in-house. Even simple procedures, like a manicure, will probably be undertaken with the client sipping a soothing cup of herbal tea.

This is one of the dingiest, most dated spas around Houston. I went with two girlfriends for facial / mani / pedi and lunch and it was sort of a joke. The lunch is served in a nasty old waiting room, last decorated in the 1950's that felt dirty, and ...nice touch... allowed you to eat lame finger sandwiches off a folding TV tray while some chick's pedicured toes were six inches away from your lunch. disgusting! My girlfriend told her facialist that she had sensitive skin, and she was treated to a chemical so harsh, her face turned beat red for TWO DAYS. And at that we had to fight with the manager to get 20% off the facial as my friend sat there with her face sizzling. It really was a horrible experience for all of us. I would never go back!
Pros: The staff attendants were quick nice.
Cons: Horrible, dated atmosphere. Might have been cool in the 1960's. Grumpy manager. Poor service.

This place is terrible when it comes to customer service. I bought a pressed powder (over 40 dollars) here, on a recommendation from a friend. tried it out for a few weeks completely broke out my face, I looked like i was 16 again. I tried to return it, but since they have SEVEN DAY return policy I couldn't. I used to work at a spa and we always recommended a client try out any new skin product for THIRTY DAYS before they decided if it would work with their skin!!!! SEVEN DAYS IS RIDICULOUS!!! ALSO, I talked to their manager and she didn't help at all. I emailed their urban email address - FIVE TIMES that suppoosedly goes to their owner, and never got a response back. I WOULD NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN AND WOULDN'T RECOMMEND TO MY FRIENDS
Pros: NONE
Cons: RETURN POLICY/PARKING/RUDE MANAGERS/HORRIBLE OWNER
