What Our Expert Scouts Say

St. Arnold's Brewery
May 08, 2013

Saint Arnold Brewery recently kicked off their lunch program where it is not only okay to have a brew with your meal, but it is recommended. You are really getting the best of two worlds; to say the least. The lunch program is fairly straightforward. It is open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. (when they take the last order), and offers a singe selection per day that starts with a soup or salad and ends with an optional dessert. And beer samplings are included just for the hell of it!

Check out Saint Arnold's new weekly lunch specials prepared by Chef Ryan Savoie (formerly of Grove and Alto). The menu changes daily but the price stays the same. Under $20 for two courses and beer samples. For $5 you can get dessert, too. Of course the beers: the brown is my go-to but look out for their delicious seasonals. Weekly lunches, evening tours and Saturdays are hoppin'. This is a north side mainstay with much up it sleeves.

The "Newery" is a Must Do!. Looking for a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon with friends? Check out the new St. Arnold’s Brewery --dubbed the ‘Newery’ by the St. Arnold’s Brew Crew. In early 2010, St. Arnold’s moved into their new facility just northeast of downtown. They have tours on Saturdays and just started holding them during the week as well. For $7, you get a small glass (8-12 oz?) and 4 tokens which are good for 4 glasses of beer. They open at 11am, but get there early to get a seat. You can hang out, drink beer and then go on a 30-minute tour held about once an hour. Insider tips: Bring your own St. Arnold’s pint glass (or buy one there) and you get more beer with each pour. Bring your own food, there’s nothing to buy there, but many groups had pizza delivered.

Christmas Ale. I always look forward to the delicious seasonal ales every year. The St. Arnold Christmas Ale is one of my favorites.

Smooth, Rich, Malty with the spicy sweet hint of nutmeg and molasses. Feels thick on the tongue like a porter. Love it!

Looking forward to visiting their new downtown location very soon.

Good Beer... But...... I'm a big fan of the beer but not so much of the people making it.. On a few occasions I've stopped in to purchase shirts, glasses etc. and to trade in my six pack holders. I have'nt found the workers there to be particularly friendly... I'd say they need to work on their customer service skills considering I'm drinking their beer and advertising for them by buying their stuff... Beer is supposed to be fun ! All said, The beer is of Good Quality and the Saturday tours Are fun... Maybe I've just dropped in at the wrong times or they're so foucused on making good beer that they can't really be bothered by the odd consumer buying their shwaggg..... Cheers !

Great Texas beer. Although the surroundings aren't particularly what come to mind when you think of a quaint microbrewery, once you're inside the tasting room, you know you're in the presence of passionate brewers. For any beer enthusiast, this tour is a must. The only one of its kind in Houston...

Tucked away in an industrial area, this cozy brewery offers a lesson in beer-ology and plenty of cold suds.. In Short
No beer lover's visit to Houston is complete without a stop at the Saint Arnold Brewing Company, Houston's first and most successful microbrewery. Named for the patron saint of brewers, Saint Arnold offers public tours of its brewery every Saturday at 1pm, followed by a beer tasting in a small pub set up right on the premises. No reservations are required, and both the tour and the beer tasting are free.
