In Short – Hotels are fond of flinging around the phrase "Old World charm," but Galveston's Tremont House truly deserves that characterization. Artfully decorated in black and white with occasional splashes of green or red, the Tremont is filled with Victorian-style furnishings, with rooms featuring lofty 14-foot ceilings, hardwood floors and lush carpets. Pristine white cotton muslin spreads cover enameled brass beds, and spectacular striped tile walls enclose bathrooms with marble tubs, hand-painted Italian tiles and towel warmers.

Editor's Tips

Know Before You Go:
The Tremont is a prime spot for people attending Galveston's annual Mardi Gras, and reserving a room can be a real challenge. Start early.

Love Galveston and this hotel!

by PrincessAriel

I loved this hotel! Galveston is one of my favorite getaway spots, and the Tremont House is so romantic. I would definitely come back to this hotel- the lobby alone is gorgeous. My room was clean, with an adorable bed that you would never find in a standard hotel. The Strand District has some great shopping so make sure and stop by there; it?s very close to the hotel. I would recommend this hotel for a romantic getaway.

  • Pros: Beautiful lobby, nice rooms

Simply beautiful hotel!

by BethanyFAtlanta

I just got back from a stay at this beautiful hotel, and could not recommend it highly enough. The whole place is elegant and charming; yet comfortable with great amenities like wireless internet and towel warmers. It is in a good location in historic Galveston and is right in the middle of the whole Strand area. I did the afternoon tea in the atrium lobby, and it just added to the ambiance.

Beautiful Historic Hotel

by scotterb

The only drawback we could see was that "Historic" tends to mean "small" as far as room sizes go. But, once you get passed that minor bit the Tremont is a wounderful place to visit, It takes on the old world charm of the Island's history.

The service is exceptional with quality food and drink at the hotel resturaunt and bar. Don't miss having a cocktail at the rooftop lounge.

Highly recomended

  • Pros: Location, historic feel, excellant service

Beautiful Hotel!

by MBFOrlando

Staying at the Tremont House was such a great experience for my husband and I. The hotel is beautiful, and the staff was very friendly through our whole stay. I loved the decor, especially the high ceilings; it truly felt like an historical environment. We ate the hotels restaurant, Merchant Prince, and would definitely recommend trying it. We stayed for a small weekend getaway and would go back again if we had the chance. It was ideal for a relaxing weekend away.

Do not miss an opportunity to stay at The Tremont House. The hospitality is fabulous. They will remember your name and open all your doors. They are prompt. The hotel is clean, rooms are quiet with beautiful high ceilings. Heated towel racks are neat. Good cable selections. Within walking distance of the historic STRAND DISTRICT. Also only 2 blocks from Starbucks Coffee. A great hotel to stay at if you are taking a cruise. Minutes from the pier.

  • Pros: Close to Strand, great value, hospitality plus
  • Cons: Daily valet $10, no pool
