“It can be a bit crowded around lunch time, and parking is tight, but this is one of my favorite places to go when it's not too hot outside.”
“For the price, you can afford the whole enchilada: appetizer, entree and dessert, and still feel like you're paying a million bucks because the atmosphere is so inviting!”
“Great spot for a burger and beer.”
“The salads here are huge and delicious!”
“The waiters/ waitresses are really helpful because the menu doesn't give much of a description of any food items.”

“Delicious burgers, huge salads, and great barbeque.”
delicious!. Love this place! The service is always great and the food is delicious!
One bad apple. I LOVE Barnabys!!!!! It's always a treat to enjoy the food and company. But the last time I went I had the WORSE waiter. He was horrible...I will remember his face and never sit in his area...He was so rude that if I wasn't a frequent customer...I would not go back! I must sadly say that my heart broke when they took the apple pie off the menu....What were they thinking!
At first it was good.... I walked into Barnaby's and enjoyed the colorful paintings of Barnaby the dog. Prices were extremely affordable and there was a little bit of everything. I ordered the spinach lasagna and guacamole with chips. I could not eat more than one bite of the lasagna, because it was way too hot. I told the waiter and he ignored me. The service was horrible, and we ended up having to go up to the front counter to get anything done. The guacamole was good, the vanilla cake was dry. I enjoyed the strawberry lemonade. I never got more than a bite of my lasagna, really. It still was steaming an hour and a half after I got into the car. It was miserable. The worst came that night, when I became ill off after eating this small amount of food. I had to leave work early the following Friday because of how sick I was. Thats money I cannot be reimbursed with. Parking was also a pain and a hazard to both personal safety and vehicle safety. I will not be back here. I almost gave it 5 stars until the inferno of a lasagna and how ill I became.
Great atmosphere -- love it!.
I love Barnaby's! My friend is a Houston-local who took me and I couldn't get over how many amazing choices they had... and everything is delicious! I now live out of town but I always visit whenever I'm in the area.
The atmosphere is casual. Waitstaff has always been friendly, attentive, and upbeat.
And plus, it's totally cool that you can bring your dog (if you eat on the patio).
It's a little pricey for lunch (like $8-10) but definitely worth it as a treat.
Great lunch spot, reasonable prices, good service. This was a great place to go for a casual lunch. There was a healthy crowd, but no wait on a Saturday afternoon. The waitstaff was fast, efficient and still personal and friendly. Theres a great patio that looks out onto Shepherd St. if you like to dine outside. The food was great, hearty sandwiches and burgers, wraps, salads, etc. Great American-style food, as well as quite a few health-conscious options on the menu.
Great spot for a burger and beer.. For a casual dining experience with a dash of character and a cool patio this is the place. I love their burgers and the beer is always cold, if not exactly varied. It can be a bit crowded around lunch time, and parking is tight, but this is one of my favorite places to go when it's not too hot outside. Service is always prompt and they deliver what you expect. It's a good place to kick back and relax with your kids or a co-worker. And, especially after lunch hour, not a bad place to sit back and chat with your honey.
Good Food....Rude Host. Pretty good food and our waiter was awesome. However, the hostess was incredibly rude to two of my friends that had seated themselves at a table that was not wiped down. She basically yelled at them in front of an entirely full restaurant and completely publicly humiliated them just because they walked in and sat down. She just kept yelling "you can?t sit there! Get up you can?t sit there!" So of course they left. I just thought it was unprofessional and inappropriate to treat a customer that way. I did end up speaking with the manager and he did seem apologetic, however the hostess didn't show the same feeling. She just sarcastically said 'maybe next time I will be nicer'. I just don?t understand how someone in customer service could respond like that.
Unusually Rude Host.
This evening we arrived at Barnaby's as we have done many times before. The host said 'hi' and mumbled 'anywhere you like' - which is the norm. We wandered over to the only available booth which had been cleared but the table hadn't been wiped and menu's placed. A waiter arrived and took our drink order. A minute later, the host arrived and had a tantrum at our table; he said "I said.... 'any cleared table'... if you want this one, you'll have to wait" in the rudest tone we've ever been spoken to in a Houston restaurant, and then he stormed off. We were shocked, the two tables next to us were shocked.... we sat for a few seconds and decided that the best course of action was to leave.
We then went to Brasil and had a really nice meal.
Barnaby's.... drop the attitude... your host might have had a really bad day, but taking it out on loyal customers didn't help anyone.
Spectacular and Extra Sensational. My wife and I go here about twice a month and always leave rubbing our tummies in delight. The food is extra tasty and consists of high quality ingredients. The atmosphere is open and sunny by day and intimate by night. Though it's tempting to always go with old standbys like Dr. Gale's Meatloaf or the Pesto Chicken Salad Sandwich, the menu is updated on a regular basis and new additions such as Red Beans and Rice are always welcome. Staff is friendly and cute. I get the feeling that they enjoy their work environment. One waitress in particular, Cassidy, is our favorite and we try to sit with her whenever we can. Her service is stellar and she always has great suggestions like heating up the chocolate cake and adding a scoop of Amy's Ice Cream! Yummy! Bottom line is that Barnaby's is great, always has been great, and we will forever be dedicated patrons.
Diner food with a waggish twist..
The Scene
Not as diverse as the original Fairview location, the newer, roomier River Oaks area Barnaby's bustles with a cross-section of cool families toting tots, Gen X-ers, single straights and gays.
The Food
In this dog-eat-dog restaurant world, count on Barnaby's user-friendly menu, a magnet for chow-hounds and healthful eaters alike. There's a bit of West Coast influence--fetch California salad or chicken La Jolla--along with creature comforts like Dr. Gale's tomato-sauced meatloaf with satisfying garlic mashed potatoes. Organic chuck burgers (spicy guacamole-topped is delish) taste backyard charcoal-grilled, and seasoned fries are tops. Sandwiches also transcend sameness: Try pesto-and-artichoke chicken salad. Grilled salmon disappoints, but most people would roll over and play dead for the baby back ribs or Key lime pie.
