Rude! – Watch out! The Continental club adverstised a $10.00 cover in the Houston Press, but when my friends and I arrived, the bouncer was charging twice that! I informed the bouncer they had advertised at $10.00, then turned to consult my friends and was mocked by the bouncer behind my back. I was reminded of Middle School, and certainly not impressed by their idea of costumer service.
a little bit o' something – this place is quirky. they have some weird, but really good house bands at the other club -- "big top lounge" -- owned by the same people. cool cats and devilish dames are the kind of crowd to expect. funky, texas, folksy, bluesy sounds trail out of the cc. go to the "big top lounge" on wed. nite and check out the lite rock express. they play gino vanelli, seals and crofts, america, and all those sappy songs everybody really loves.
Beware!! – Parking is definately sketchy! Watch out for the homeless guys pretending to be attendants and charging 5 bucks. Also, beware that you WILL be charged a cover BEFORE 10, even if the website tells you otherwise. Show up at 9:30 and expect to pay. Do not expect to be able to talk to your friends once inside because it's too loud and distorted to hear each other. Bartenders are playful and pour a mean drink. :)
Good music BUT.... – ...scary location and a low-rent inside the place. Looove the Austin club, and the laid-back decor just looks and feels right in Austin, but in Midtown Houston, so near the glossier downtown, it just looks rundown and cheap. Granted, this isn't a see-and-be-seen place, but rather a place to chill and listen to live bands. However, my girl friends and I were rather nervous walking up to this place at night to meet some guy friends that picked the meeting spot.
Bingo!! – Fun place, great atmosphere, great bands!!
Live music at happy hour is tremendous!
What A Rockin Joint – My favorite place to see live music in Houston. Allways first rate acts. I have seen Jr. Brown, what a great show. For regional acts and eclectic Texas music doesn't get any better than Wayne the Train Hancock. Recently Wayne cancelled and Austin band Cornell Hurd filled in. What a show. Played 4 hours straight. This is a great joint. The Bar-B-Que man serves up good sandwiches right outsid the door. Prices are right. Parking sucks, what with the construction.
