Shiney building, empty promises.. This is a (2010) review for the new Y at the new location downtown.

Like a Twinkee, it looks good on the outside, but it's empty calories and sloppy goo on the inside. Staff is poorly trained, too-young-to-know-much, bored, or just cynical.

Yes, the machines are fine and the paint is fresh but it's the "Y," now, not the YMCA. Heartless place. "You are a number, not a person. Nothing to see here... Move along."

I thought I could do better than some of my friends and just go and workout, meet some new few friends, etc. But, like them, eventually some issue or another came up and the staff blew it. "Nice" building, "nice" carpet, paint, etc. But, down deep, not a nice place.

You'll enjoy it if you just want to piddle at being healthy: "Just don't get serious about it... It makes the other kids feel bad."

"Uh, yeah... Getting ready to compete and winning... that used to be a - the - goal. Not interested in firming up the flesh for being eaten by someone better prepared to deal with real life."

Disneyland for "work out wanna bes." Steer clear if you want to do more than piddle.

This YMCA is probably what most health clubs would like to be when they grow up.. In Short
The agenda at the Y is staggering, and includes 24 varieties of aerobics instruction, golf lessons on an indoor driving range, aquatics classes, first-aid and CPR certification; not to mention squash, racquetball and volleyball leagues. The facility also provides childcare, a mentoring program and an extensive youth sports program.
