Chapel of St. Basil completes the UST Mall.
The Chapel of St.Basil contrasts with all other University of St.Thomas buildings:
white succo and black granite opposed to rose-colored brick. The difference
stresses the uniqueness and supernatural character of what the Chapel represents.
Through its height, and the increased impact of the upward sweep of unbroken
white walls, the Chapel dominates the whole campus. The cross culminating
its golden dome proclaims the Christian character of the University, indeed
it makes the UST campus visible from most high points in the city, including
over-flying planes.
Breathtakingly Beautiful. The chapel's character is not defined by the massive gold dome (which is currently be renovated) but by the small touches inside. In the pews there is not a single nail, and the entire chapel is lit using natural light. It is a beautiful place to worship and sit in meditation. Being situated on the University of St. Thomas, just blocks from the museum district and Hermann Park, the chapel should definately be on anyone's list to visit defining sites in the city.
