Editorial Review for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – by Melissa Jeffries
The Scene
Even if you've never been to Atlanta, you've probably been to Hartsfield-Jackson. Renamed in 2003 (the airport honors two influential Atlanta mayors), it's home to Delta and AirTran--and seemingly endless delays. Luckily, it's easy to navigate. Two terminals, North and South, lead to an international concourse (E) and five domestic concourses (T, A, B, C, D). A people mover, which comes about every two minutes, connects the terminals to the concourses. For the business traveler, the airport provides a conference center, which can be rented by the day, or Laptop Lane, which can be rented by the minute.
The Draw
If you're hungry, hit Paschal's Southern Cuisine (Atrium and Concourse A) or the Brews Blues Bar (Concourse T) for some local flavor. The atrium has a large selection of retail stores, including local favorite, the Coca-Cola Store. Hartsfield-Jackson is also on the MARTA rail line, Atlanta's subway system, which can make a long layover a brief local adventure.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoThe airport is about 10 miles from downtown Atlanta. A cab downtown for one person runs about $25, to Buckhead and points north it will be closer to $40. More than one in the cab and there is a per person charge.
Save TimeMost car rental companies, with the exception of Enterprise and E-Z Rental, can be found in the main terminal of the airport.

I imagine the reason Hartsfield often surpasses Chicago is that it's so darned efficient. The concourse trains, the moving walkways, the food vendors...all reliable, friendly and fast. Yes, you'll pay $19.99 for a candy bar and blow a whole paycheck on a magazine and post card at the gift shops, but that's life in the big city.

If you fly Delta, this is your paradise - easy to get through ticketing, to gates, and to airport clubs. Obviously this is an airport designed for frequent fliers with the Laptop Lane (T-1 Internet access), multitude of mall shops, and Delta has also made this a showcase for "how to keep customers INFORMED" - no other airport has the displays that let you know exactly where you are on a standby or upgrade list. And last of all - Delta has found a way to keep rates to their hub affordable - unlike New York <> Chicago, New York <> Dallas and New York <> California where you can pay upwards of $600 each way without a Saturday stay.
Pros: location, speed, new facilities
Cons: delays, lines
