In Short – The walls may be plastered with old gas-station signs and other vintage paraphernalia, but this is no intentionally retro operation. The feel is genuinely informal and unstudied--a real joint, if you will. The most notable of the famous burgers is the Squealer, a real artery-clogger riddled with ground-up hickory-smoked bacon. One sporting refried beans has its fans, too.

Get on your motorcycle and ride to Tookies. Order a squealer and a beer. Repeat. I love this place! Go next weekend.

Tookies, R.I.P.

by kc5jk at Citysearch

I agree with most all the other reviewers. I ate at the place ever since it first opened. Even after hearing one other story about dirty kitchen practices, I couldn't resist going again for my requisite No.99 and Bombshell. The two very best burger joints I've ever experienced were right here -- Tookies, and the Jalapeno Tree. Sadly, both are now gone. FM146 will be widened one day, and Tookies knew they were going to lose the place, so they decided that all the damage from Hurricane Ike was the excuse waiting to happen. Another one bites the dust. Not as good as it once was

by lhayes2169 at Citysearch

I used to work at Tookies in high school and the place was awesome! The owners mother worked there making the onion rings in the morning and she ran a very tight ship! The managers also followed in her steps to make sure everything was the best. Over the last several years the place has gone down hill. The atmosphere is still great and awesome, but some of the "fun" of the atmosphere has been taken away. The food is now served on regular plates instead of the western style metal blue plates, real glasses replaced the picante jars for drinks. The onion rings are good, but not as good as they used to be. The service is no longer what it used to be either. BUT I do love the items on the menu. The bombshells are one our favorites, even though extremely over priced! I love the 99 and my husbands gets teh squealer. the kids get different things. They really are one of the best burgers around! We drive from Pearland every so often just to go to Tookies. However, the last several times we've been there I have been extremely disappointed with the service. It takes forever for you to receive anything..service, food, refills, etc... I keep saying I will not go back, but I do love the burgers, and we keep going back. since the hurricane we've found another place to go that is closer to home. But we still will go to Tookies occassionally. Even though the service is not that good (and neither are their tips since I DO tip based on service), the food is good. the prices are also a little extreme. But for some reason we still keep going back. I just hope Tookies recovers from Ike and opens back up.

  • Pros: Fun atmosphere, great food
  • Cons: Prices are too high, service is way below acceptable
