best seafood in town!. I've been coming to the Monument Inn for 20 years. The food is always delicious and the cinnamon rolls are to die for. They have recently remodeled the entire restaurant and banquet rooms (due to IKE) and the place is better than it's ever been. I try something new almost every time I go there but my favorite is the panfried shrimp. The place is always busy especially on weekend nights. Ask for a window table to better see all those huge ships that go right past the restaurant. Our service, while not polished like a 4 star restaurant, is always prompt and polite. If you haven't tried out this gem, you need to..It's a little out of the way, but worth the trip.

Good food offset by restaurant not banning smoking.. Food was great, portion sizes were more than ample. Waitress was very personable.

BUT, don't think about going into the bar for a pre-dinner drink unless you're okay with being confronted by smokers sitting throughout the area, puffing away without regard for non-smokers sitting next to them.

It was so bad, several women had napkins held to their noses, trying to filter out the smoke from getting to their lungs.

Not what it use to be!. I have been going to this restaurant since I was a kid and have always enjoyed it. My last visit though will probably be my last. The misses and me recently went and were kinda surprised by the price increase portion decrease and overall quality of food. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters on half shell which looked gross with black/green lumps in them not to mention the shell particles that were in with the oyster overall I would pass and this is the third straight time this has happened. The misses ordered bowl of shrimp, chicken & sausage gumbo it came in a much smaller bowl than they use to serve it in and had absolutely no flavor to it. I ordered a bowl of craw fish bisque and have had this dish several time before but never in this small of a bowl. The bisque is usualy heavy and creamy but instead it was watery and thing. The cinnamon rolls were still good though. Also we had to wait about 15 minutes for a hostess to sit us with many available tables.

Monument Inn. I am a professional Tour Guide and I always take my clients to this restaurant when we are in the area. For a visitor to Houston, this is a must. San Jacinto, the Houston Ship Channel, Battleship Texas, and Monument Inn, what a combination. The food is always good, the service friendly, and the view. It makes you proud to be a Texan and a Houstonian.

I was taken to the San Jacinto Inn all of my life and it is now gone, but the tradition continues at the Monument Inn.

Busy on weekends, good customer service, and good food.. I took a group of about 25 people here on a Sunday afternoon. Our reservations were made a few days in advance. Despite our reservations and arrival confirmation, it took about 20 minutes get a table. I am not complaining, just stating the facts. After being seated, service was prompt. The atmosphere is nice. You can see ships coming into and out of the bay. The dining area upstairs gets fairly crowded on weekends though so definately make reservations in advance. The food was okay. I ordered redfish with a ponchartrain wine sauce. There was quite a bit of salt in the food but it was good. Before we ate they served us bread and cinamon rolls, which were great. All in all it was fun and a good place for large groups.

Great views!. Yearly, I have to go to the Monument Inn for the terrific views of ship channel traffic, the proximity to the Battleship Texas & San Jacinto Monument. The food is average, with lots of fried seafood on the menu. The young waitstaff are friendly, helpful, efficient. The decor could use a little freshening, but heck, I love the place!

Great Party Place. I had a birthday party for my daughter downstairs and everyone is still talking about it. The service was fantasic and orderly. No one had to wait for the food or drinks. The setting up of the room was perfect and I have nothing but good things to say about the place. Everyone was so nice! The manager was great and very professional. I highly recommend it to anyone having a party. My friends and family thought I paid double of what I did. It is very affordable!

Wow an out-of-towner with lunch and piece of Texas history.. In Short
With its spectacular second-floor views of the Houston Ship Channel, Battleship TEXAS and San Jacinto Battleground, lunch or dinner here is like a field trip into Houston history. The kitchen emphasizes seafood, much of it fried, but the menu offers a few pasta, chicken and beef staples as well. Diners will be hard-pressed not to fill up on cinnamon rolls brought to the table. Key lime pie finishes off the meal.

Excellent Seafood. I have been going to this restaurant for years and think it is the best in Houston. I love the bread and cinnamon rolls they give you (they are very generous with them). The drink prices from the bar are outstanding and not a rip off like some of the other restaurants. The value is terrific and the fried stuffed shrimp are the best. They don't sell much dessert there because of the rolls but wow! Great place to hold a christmas party for your company. My brother was here from California and he couldn't believe the food and what you got for the price. Got to go there to believe it.

The Best in Houston. The food was great, you had all you could eat and then some. Even though fried it was spectacular. The stuffed crab are to die for. The rolls and bread are also great. They didn't waste their money on fancy surroundings just great seafood by the truckload. The cold boiled shrimp are my wife's favorite and you better take a book when she gets going. This is what a great restaraunt should be it's about the fod and the people. My sister comes all the way from Nashville to eat here. Maybe you should to.
