Grand indeed, this lavish Victorian-era theater is Galveston's top cultural venue..
The Scene
This noble throwback to earlier days on the island survived city-stomping hurricanes of 1900 and 1915 and now, seeing its third century, has become Galveston's premier cultural venue. The lavish, 1,000-seat, Victorian-era theater is open to the public for self-guided tours during regular business hours.
The Experience
Although most of the acts booked here tend toward the mainstream and middlebrow--like Bill Cosby, the Statler Brothers, Boys Choir of Harlem--you'll occasionally see some edgier offerings, like George Carlin's stand-up act. There are also national touring shows and companies, like "Rent," "Stomp" and the Hong Kong Ballet, that broaden your options for entertainment.
SuperDave. We saw "Greater Tuna" and "Tuna Christmas" not only was the shows great, but the old Opera House is Gorgeous.
A place for the performing Arts. The Grand is a wondeful place to watch a play, a musical, and especially the Galveston Ballet, which is a non-profit organization that is a pre-proffesional company. The Grand is a wonderful place to watch the Ballet.
