In Short
The most laid-back of the three restaurants that inhabit the popular Gaido's Seaside Inn complex, Casey's offers causal dining with the same family recipes they've used since 1911. While the namesake seafood, as well as landlocked menu items like steak, give Casey's a touch of class befitting its location, lighter bites like sandwiches and salads round out the menu and provide options for everyone.

Casey's is the casual side of Gaido's, a well known seafood restaurant in Galveston for years. It's known for the giant blue crap on top of the building. Both sides serve the best seafood I've ever had. Casey's side, you can sit outside and watch the surfers, great atmosphere. Prices are about average.

We have been to Casey's a couple of times, based upon referrals from a few of our friends. However, both times we were disappointed with the quality and quantity of the seafood. Afterall, Galveston you would expect to have the freshest and best seafood, since the town is right on the Gulf. But Casey's just did not deliver quality seafood. I tried the soft shell crabs, and they were dismally small. My fiancee tried pasta with seafood atop of it on the last visit, and it was just nothing special. Lord, where do you go to find great seafood in this town? So far, we have not been impressed. And we are not hard-to-impress people. But we do know the difference between fresh fish, and frozen fish.

I was at my parents' beach-house 2 weeks ago, and actually ended up eating here twice that week. The food was always delicious, but their waitstaff is so-so at best. They messed up sides several times on the first time (dinner), and the second time was entirely messed up (lunch). Dinner was less messed up overall, so maybe try them then. I think a lot of it has to do with their very young waitstaff. Their blackened redfish is phenomenal, the fried mushrooms are the best I've ever had (not greasy and good & firm), and the chowder is the first I've ever said I loved. In fact, I pretty much hate au gratin potatoes, but these are out of this world, too. Also, try their salad with the house dressing. It's all sooo good... assuming they get your order right. Overall, Casey's has great food at a good price, and the atmosphere is much more relaxed than neighbouring Gaido's... plus, if they mess your order up enough, they'll probably throw in free desert. We had enough people in our group, that we were able to get one of everything on the desert menu, and, I've got to say, it was ALL soooo good! Give it a try... it's behind the big shrimp on the Seawall.
