HORRIBLE. I think the staff are writing the good reviews. This place canNOT get the good reviews these people are writing. It just is not possible!

Only giving it one star because it wont let me give NO stars!

Tourist Trap by the Sea!. This may very well be the worst restaurant I have ever been to. McDonald's has better seafood. The first thing that I noticed was the smell. I am not sure what it was but I am guessing that one of the customers may have expired weeks ago and the staff hasn't checked on his table and discovered the body yet. That should tell how I felt about the service as well. The shrimp were small and chewy. The salad looked old and lifeless. Didn't bother with dessert. The prices were ridiculous. I couldn't even enjoy the beer, because I think it was so old that it had soured. This was my last visit to the Rip-off by the Sea!

What is wrong with this place?!?. I went to this place once before Ike, and even though it has been awhile I cannot believe it has changed this much. I asked about the "new" owners, and they are the same as right before the hurricane. I got some malarky about how the management had changed and they had the right people now. Well here we go: service was slow, the guy that waited on my wife and I seemed as if he was not interested and was messing around with his buddy, half of the things on the menu were not available, the place looked old and dirty, oh and it was HOT inside they seem to have no AC, outside the view was nice, but the table coverings are all ripped and in need of repair, when we did get our food hers was cold and mine seemed to have been fried in week-old grease.

STAY AWAY!!

the only reason this is getting a star is that I have to place one

Diarrhea by the Sea!. This was once a prince and now it is a toad! What happened? The GM of Landry's - Kemah is now the owner of Clifton's. So, you have low quality and high prices. They don't care if you come back. It is now a tourist trap. Those in the know ...will recognize former Landry's employee's are now the managers and waiters at Clifton's. Unfortunately, screwing the customers only works on the Kemah Boardwalk. You can't sell garbage to the "locals". The new owners need to go back to the Kemah Boardwalk!!!

What happened?. I have been eating at Clifton for 25 years. It was always known for great food. We ate there about 3 weeks ago and the fried shrimp and gumbo were not acceptable for the bay area. Might sell in Montana. The red sauce was unidentifiable. I have had several friends say the same thing i.e. the crab claws were not near the same.

What happened? Did the chef quit??

new ownership -restaurant lost it's good food. took an out of town friend to Cliftons by the Sea. Ate outside on deck where there were at least 5 cats around us and spinach, crab, artichoke dip was cold. Sent it back and again it came out cold. It was 6:30pm and they had run out of the beer we wanted to have. Wanted the crawfish since it was in season, I got the half & half, crawfish etouffe and fried crawfish tails. The fresh crawfish tails were large, but even though the waitress said the etouffe and the fried tails were from the same batch of fresh crawfish, they were small and tasted like frozen seafood. The grilled redfish looked dry. I was at this restaurant last summer and it was much better. You have to walk through a bar with a lot of smokers to get to the main restaurant. If Fertitta bought this place, it is going down hill. Waitress was slow with our bill and could not get through the tables so would pass it up around the edge of the deck! Then menu is not the same and the food is not fresh and it comes out cold. DON'T GO! My husband was up at 3am throwing up.. probably due to something in the food. FInd another great seafood place and there are a lot of them! This one has gone down hill with the new ownership.

Great food, Great view!!. My family and i just went to cliftons this evening and enjoyed everyting about this place. The waitstaff was fun and attentive, the restaurant was clean and had a nice diner feel to it. We found out that the place is under new ownership by some lovely people. The stuffed snapper was cooked perfectly, and there were so many choices of sides i didnt have to settle on something i did not like. The apple pie was well received by my picky eaters, ofcourse who would say no to icecream, whip cream and sizzling sauce surrounding the pie. All of this also sits right on galveston bay, so you have some of the most spectacular views. I will come back for more!!!

Awesome place for seafood. I had my birthday dinner here on a Monday. The service was excellent and the food was absolutely terrific. We had the Dinner by the Sea and it was enough for two adults to share (even without the appetizers that we ordered). When I've driven past before, this place looks packed on the weekends. The view of the Bay is terrific and the atmosphere is jovial and fun. I would highly recommend Clifton by the Sea.

Accommodating service and unbelievably fresh seafood merit a drive to the shore.. In Short
While classic, affordable entrees like chicken fried steak are available, how could you refuse seafood just pulled from the very waters you're gazing at from your patio table? For a sample of the best they have to offer, try a steamer evening. Available for one, two, or the family (serves 4-6), this popular option affords a variety of all your favorite shellfish, from Alaskan king crab to mussels and shrimp.
